Joe,
Sounds like you may be looking at a more serious issue than gum recession. Periodontal disease or Periodontitis is the inflammation of the supporting tissues of the teeth. This is caused when gums are not cared for by regular brushing and flossing (you should brush 2x a day and floss 1x a day). Flossing gets bacteria out of the space between your teeth and gums, if this bacteria isn't removed it causes serious problems. As periodontal disease progresses, the gingiva (your gums) may recede, leaving portions of the roots of the teeth exposed. The process can be reversed in many patients. I suggest you find a good periodontist. They can begin treatment to restore the health of your gums and can teach you how to increase your home care effectiveness

An easy natural way to stop& cure receding gums is to apply Aloe vera. Aloe Vera has a natural healing and kills bacteria causing the damage to the gums. Simply apply some Aloe Vera gel to the gums a couple times a day, Aloe Vera is safe to ingest so you don't have to worry about any in your system. Aloe Vera also helps increase mouth moisture which decreases bad breath. Aloe Vera starts killing the bacteria, and lets the healing of your receding gums begin. Aloe Vera may have a little tingling or numbing effect when applied, but this is natural, it's working like an antiseptic

Hey Joe.
First, how are you brushing your teeth? You shouldn't use anything on your teeth other than a soft toothbrush. Medium and hard toothbrushes are too abrasive and can cause your gums to recede. Also, if you're a "scrubber" when you're brushing (meaning you use a back-and-forth motion with lots of pressure) that can also cause your gums to recede.
If neither of these sound like you, please make an appointment with your dentist. He/she can check you out, and if need be, refer you to a periodontist.
Good luck.

thats exactly what my dentist told me.....that my gums were receding........... he asked if i flossed alot and i told him no. he said that if i floss more, then my gums would stop receding. floss especially at night. he said it is caused by food getting crammed in the cums when you eat and it works on your gums and jaws like an acid
