This is going to be extremely in a nutshell: Basically, Buddhists believe that life is suffering, and that through meditation, you reach enlightenment, or nirvana, which transcends life and reincarnation (if you reincarnate, you basically start the circle of suffering all over again). You also seek the middle path, or the way; that is, you avoid all dualities wherever possible.

Like I said, extremely in a nutshell (and my Buddhism teacher would probably keel over dead if he saw how condensed this account was). I'll put up some links...

First off, I'm not Bhuddist, so there are a few things an actual Bhuddist could explain better.
What I do understand is Bhuddism surrounds itself in the belief that all of life's misery comes from desire. Wanting things that make you feel good makes you hurt.
This was once a very practical belief as it was practiced in a region where food and other indulgences were sparce. In my opinion, it's rather obsolete.

I don't know any links but I believe Buddism to be one of the less constrictive and more tolerant religions.
Not eating meat and believing in peace and non violence is a better start than some other religons who's names I wont name.
If i could be any one religion, i would pick Buddism.

they are much the same as christian beliefs. do no harm, love one and other. it's all the same god - religion is just cultural manifestations of the same ideas of good conduct.
the characters differ in the scripture, but the underlying message is the same.
