I am helping my Pastor brother organize a fish fry to raise money for a Not For Profit organization. We want to send medical supplies to Kenya and have never hosted one before. Can anyone give some advice on how to start and where to get supplies?

first you should some meat market let them know that are a not for profit organization let them know what your plans are and what you are thinking of doing so that case they may offer some donations toward the fish fry. you could also make some programs and sell at a reasonable cost. because you don't want to spend too much money for the fish fry because what you looking for is the gain. and after the sale then you can decide what you want to spend to accommodate the amount of people attending. so will not be over budget. also other retailers for other donation for paper supplies, barrow tables and chair from the community centers ask catering services for help and ideas. best of luck

Well at my church we do this: Most of the fish is donated by one of the church members. You will need cooking oil a large deep pot or fryer, paper plates, napkins, cole slaw (is best) spaghetti and bread. Can you get a head count? Can you take orders in advance? At least two pieces of fish is sufficient for an order. Can your church members donate the sides? Go to a fishery or a fish market, sometime you can buy in bulk and take a tax letter that is supplied by your state (if they have that for churches in your area). Figure out how much you want to spent and how much you are going to charge for a plate. This is just for a start and the next time you can determine how much to spend for supplies.Go to a paper supply wholesale to purchase items in bulk, you will come out cheaper on supplies.

I don't know how to host one, but there's is a very successful fish fry held every Friday evening at the VFW Hall on 63rd & Harlem. Maybe you could check it out and proceed from there. Give them a call and explain your situation, they are very nice people and I'll bet they would share information (suppliers, etc).

I'm sure you could also do a few split the pot games (using assorted colors of playing cards to lessen the cheating factor).

Best of luck in your endeavors!

well you need a fryer. which you could probably get at a sporting goods store along with chairs and tables. you could ask some other people to bring side dishes so you dont have to do everything. i guess you would probably need fish to. i bet if you go to your meat dept. in the grocery store (if they have good meat) how to cook it and what you will need to cook it. im sure they will tell you.
