medically safe yes... barring any std's. if you are having sex with her you should be able to talk openly with her. see what she has to say about it. if she is willing make sure to lay a towel out or do it in the shower. its not a bad thing in the shower.

Well if by medically safe, is it going to damage her in some way, then yes it is safe. It isn't going to cause her any damage, although it may be painful for her (when I am on my period, it hurts in any position except missionary, dunno why)
If by medically safe, can she get pregnant, then its not exactly safe. The time when a woman is most likely to pregnant is when she ovulates, which tends to be about 14 days before her period. I have heard that a woman can theoretically get pregnant at any time during her period, but I'm not sure how scientifically correct that is. Just to be safe, you should always wear a condom if you don't want a kid. There is no safe time to have unprotected sex where a woman can't get pregnant.
Also, with the blood involved, there is a higher risk for STD's.

"safe?" Well, she can still get pregnant. You can get HIV if her blood carries the virus. But most women don't usually crave sex during their periods because of the pain, discomfort and mess they are going through. If your girlfriend wants it, go ahead. Make sure there is no tampon inside her, and put a towel under her.

Technically safe but most often NOT desired by most females out there! (I wouldn't push it unless SHE desires to go forward during that time...though the desire overall may be higher due to hormonal effects, most ladies manage to put it off a few days!).

Well, besides being pretty groos for you both it shouldn't be too bad as long as you follow some means of birth control. Just wait, its not sexy to think about all that blood!
