Most gay people say "Yes". I am gay but I don't think I was necessarily born gay. I believe I was born with a strong predisposition to be gay.
Most straight will say "No". They think being gay is a choice. It's funny though because if you ask them when they choose to not be gay, they get defensive. Perhaps it's because to acknowledge that they made a decision on the issue indicates that they actually could have been gay. I don't know.
It doesn't really matter.
If you are born gay, or with a predisposition to be gay, then it is not a choice and it is natural. In America we do not discriminate against people for things beyond their control (ie... height, hair or eye color, skin color, gender, etc.)
In many cases we do not discriminate on the basis of choice (ie... religion, to drink or not drink, to smoke or not, etc.)
If being gay is a choice, well we live in America, a country founded on the right to be free and to make our own choice.
In either case, born gay or chosen gay, it should not matter when you live in a supposedly FREE DEMOCRATIC SOCIETY.
Sincerely,
Terry

I don't think that people are born gay. I think that some people are bored and they want to act out, so being "gay" gets you some attention, and if nothing else, it's different. Today, I think that some younger people are being told that since they're different, they are automatically "gay." And some people are so afraid of interacting with the opposite sex that it's easier to say, "I'm gay," and then they don't have to deal with it. Are there homosexuals out there? Yes, but not nearly as many as the current pop trends would have you think. There have always been aborant thinkers- those whose ideas are different from the mainstream, and some of them are predators. They enjoy nothing more than convincing some unsuspecting person that they too are perverted thinkers. These people aren't looking for like-minded individuals, they are looking to prey on the uninitiated. They are looking to satisfy their real perversion- "getting over" on someone who is physically or emotionally weaker than them. That's not being "gay," that's being sick. Being gay is not a political statement, either. This is nothing new. There have been many homosexuals throughout history who lived their lives without anyone knowing their sexual preferances with the exception of their partner. And that's the point. It's a choice. It's not a medical condition. At some point every homosexual comes to the conclusion that this is what satisfies them. All babies are born with the ability to use either hand to feed themselves, or throw a ball or whatever, but at some point they chose which hand feels the most comfortable to them, or someone tells them which hand to use to do something, and the brain accepts it. And it's no different than that. It's truly all in your head, and your head can be trained to do anything.

People are indeed born gay, they realize that they are gay as early as first grade. Its not really something that you can choose, just like a 100% straight person couldn't imagine getting pleasure from sleeping with somebody of the same sex it is the same for a gay or lesbian. Of coarse there are bi-sexuals who may prefer the company of one or the other, and then there are disorders and drugs which will affect how a person feels towards the various genders.

No offense but I dont think people are born homosexuals. We are social animals and most of the things we do are just a product of our social environment whether we acknowledge it or not. If some people have a tendency to be attracted to the same sex and hide under the umbrella of being born that way, what do we say about peodophiles who are sexually atttracted to babies and kids? Are they born that way? Is there a genetic factor in them too? In some countries peodophiles are actually fighting for the right to be accepted for who they are because they believe it has nothing to do with choice but that its all in their genes.
I think we should begin to take responsibility for whatever lifestyle we 'choose' to embark on.

Sexuality is determined by a complex interaction of biology and psychology. If there are any genetics involved, I doubt its as simple as a "gay gene" because of the continuum of sexual orientation - some people are gay, and others are bisexual. In addition, sexual orientation (especially with bisexuals) can appear to fluctuate through the course of one's lifetime.

From my experience, yes. Growing up I would have given anything to be straight. Now, I realise that it is part of who I am and hence I wouldn't change it. I realise that it is natural to me but looking at it from an evolutionary point of view, it is completly unnatural as my genes are now lost forever.
On the other hand, humans have evolved so much we are can no longer be compared to other organisms; basically all other organisms donate all their energy into survival and reproduction. Do humans - do we hell!! Humans to not produce to their maximum possibility, we spend great time on our own pleasure and satisfaction. In other words, we live all our lives in an unnatural way compared to all other organisms.

Pretty much seems like it... Many exhibit traits from a young age and the attraction certainly appears genetic, with logical natural reasons for its existance...
Ie filling in gender gaps and birth control to ensure supply of resources etc.
Plus stress relief for the 'pack' with the common entertainment traits, possible baby sitters (think compare campness with kids presenters) and a bridge between sexes.

of course people are born gay! it's so obvious!
look at children, some of them are so effeminate or butch, they are almost conforming to the stereotype.
it's a pity they have to go through so much rubbish before they find the right thing for them

that is a hard question to answer. When I think about, I think that if I wanted to I could be a lesbian, but I was raised Christian, and I love the thrill in searching for something I dont know much about. Like I am a girl why do I need to date one where is the mystery. So in that way of thinking, I think they just choose to be that way. but then I think they may be raised more attracted to the same sex somehow, it is really hard to say
