A female, once sexually mature, will go into heat (also known as estrus). Cats are seasonally polyestrous which means they will go into heat multiple times a season until they mate. Season usually starts a few months after winter solstice and usually ends in September or October. Indoor cats who are only exposed to artificial lighting may stay in season year round! Estrus itself will last 4 - 10 days and will cycle (about every 2 to 3 weeks) until the female mates, is spayed, or goes out of season. During this time the female will become fairly agitated: thrashing about, rubbing on floors and furniture, spraying, rolling about restlessly, lifting her tail to attract a mate, and crying or meowing loudly.
As a general rule, unless you are a breeder, it is best to always spay or neuter your pet for many medical and behavioral reasons. One female cat and her offspring can produce over 400,000 cats in just seven years. Spaying/neutering your pet will ensure that your pet will not contribute to the pet overpopulation problem.
A female cat is spayed, this means that her ovaries and uterus (reproductive organs) will be removed. Usually she can be spayed after 6 months of age or in between heats or litters. Your cat can be spayed during heat but it is more complicated and there is a slight risk due to increased vessel size and lowered clotting ability. If your female is not spayed she we often be in heat. This means meowing, crying, spraying, pacing and roaming the house (or outside if there is anyway to get out - beware a cat in heat is very, very clever) to look for a male. Unspayed females can also suffer uterine infections or breast cancer.
There are many places that offer low cost or even free spaying/neutering. You should call your local animal shelters to find out about them.
And also about the Qtip thing you have in the subject. DO NOT do that, its accually harmful to the cat and can cause all kinds of medical problems not to mention its just obscene. People sometimes here the Qtip thing but in accuallity what they are thinking is that while in labor a vet will sometimes use a lubricated Qtip to assist in the labor. this has nothing to do with a female cat in heat and is dangerous. I hope this helped.
So in short either fix the cat or mate her to a neutered male which is only a short quick fix or mate her to an unneutered male which will bring on kittens. And please do not excersize option 3 without being prepared for kittens.
Hope this helped.

well, if she's in heat, you could put her in the refrigerator for a while...
ok.. .just kidding

I don't know if this is for real, but this is the funniest thing I read today... your question prompted me to do a google search.
Check this out:

I've got tears in my eyes form laughing... but it sounds like the answer to your question.
Here is the text if you have trouble with the link:

Grab wailing, squirming cat and place it on your lap with its hind quarters readily accessible. Chances are the cat will freely offer them, if not the first time this procedure is followed, then certainly each time afterward.
Insert the Q-tip into the cat's vagina. It will be exposed and puffy. Do not insert the Q-tip into the other orifice. Either way the cat will begin to scream, but there is a subtle and audible difference in the scream of satisfaction and the scream of rectal pain. Experiment a little until you can distinguish the two.
Move the Q-tip in and out of the cat's vagina slowly at first, then more rapidly. No need to be gentle, no matter what you do with the Q-tip it beats a barbed cat penis digging around in there.
You are finished when the cat is finished. You will know when the cat is finished because it will either begin immediately to have a cat orgasm, or it will run away with the Q-tip sticking out of its ***. If this happens let it enjoy itself for a few minutes before attempting to retrieve your Q-tip.
That is it, you are done. Enjoy the peace and quiet until the cat flares up again.

Really the only thing you can do is pet her a lot. Usually either scratching her at the end of her back/base of her tail or her belly, depending on which one she likes and/or tolerates.

BTW, since it is "kitten season", she may not go completely out of heat for a while. You actually can have her fixed while she's in heat, so as soon as you notice any kind of lull, take her in ASAP. They do seem so miserable, although I don't know whether they're in any pain or not -- I'd hate to think so.

Female cats go into their mating cycle several times a year after they become sexually mature. The only thing that will stop it is for them to mate...but it only stops it long enough for them to have a litter...then it starts all over again. The best thing to do is have the cat spayed. Male cats will want to mate anytime they sense a female in "heat" or calling... and the only thing to stop that is neutering... Either way, it's more humane and healthier for the cats to be altered than to have unfullfilled mating or having tons of kittens.

No good answer besides getting her fixed. She is probably fine unless she has actual uterine problems. However, if you do not like the noise, etc then find a neutered cat and have her "serviced". It works.

You could always give her hormone shots to prevent her from ovulating and going into estrus. But it would just be easier and cheaper for you to get her spayed. Plus she'd be a much happier cat that way. Unless you plan on breeding her at a later time.

I have heard of using a male with a 'vasectomy' (a neutered one can't do the job).

Another way was to actually insert something into her-fooling her system into thinking she's mated. (I'm not sure I could do this method myself.)

It will be over soon, even if you do nothing.

You know, I saw this one time on an animal documentary. There is a way, although I can't recall. Maybe in the shock of it, I blocked it out. But I do remember, there is a way.

Get your cat fixed. If you want kittens, adopt one from the SPCA.
