Good question, nearly all of them are for love, peace and respect, but somehow whats written in the books gets lost when religion is applied on a daily basis in the real world.

Religions aren't just about values. There are alot of things to take into consideration. For instance, why are you chosing that specific religion? What purpose does it fill in your life? Do you need someone to save you from something, or are you looking for something to worship? Some religions worship statues, trees, or different holy people. Other religions worship a God that cannot be seen or heard audibly. This is a big difference. True, many Christian religions are very similar, and some divisions are legitimate, and others are not. For example, Catholics worship Jesus' mother, Mary, and believe that you are saved through a combination of God's grace and good works. Most protestants believe that you only worship Jesus/God and you are only saved by God's grace. This is a pretty big difference. Other differences are minor, and many are illegitimate. People focus on the little things instead of the big picture, that they all believe Jesus has saved them from their sins.
Most religions believe that they are following the only true way. If you believe that you are following the only way to get eternal life or true happiness, it makes sense that you don't just passively get along with others who believe the only true way is something completely different. If you just let them go their own way, and you believe your way is the only right way, they are going towards eternal condemnation, or something of the sort. There is tension between Jews and Christians, because Christians believe the Messiah already came and saved them from their sins, but the Jews are still waiting for him to come. Thats a pretty big difference.

All religions are based on lies. First, that a person begins to write something, something profound, now, because this person has written something so profound, they now believe that this idea could not have originated anywhere but with a source of truth. In fact, god(desses) spoke directly to and through them with this writing...this writing is, in fact, the one thing that unites mankind to god(desses) because it gives a group a wholeness and identity. Religion is still a throwback to early governmental design and you can still see that the Roman Empire never disappeared either, it is still alive...AS A CHURCH!!!!!(Roman Catholic Church).
However, the initiates into this "subjecated belief system" will defend that belief because now, by believing this LIE, it defines them and to tell someone they are a lie is to invoke the very deepest urge of the survival instinct in the human animal, so, action up to and including death to all dis-beleivers is certainly justifiable within the confines of such a lie.
It is the first and original source of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder.

Have to remember there is often, and sadly, a big difference between what religions teach and how people live. A religion can teach love and peace but that does not mean the followers get it or do it.

It's the same reason that any group of people fights one another. Though their values may be close, their beliefs are different in some ways which causes tension.
I bet England and the colonies had truly similiar values, but the American colonists believed in a few things different that caused them to rebel.
Also when someone is different, it's human nature to reject them. It's the same reason groups fight in high school.

Because they've failed to understand the concept of the following passage of Scripture, "Put ye on the WHOLE ARMOR of God....." It means that we are to use the entire Word of God to protect ourselves and govern ourselves spiritually because we are going to be held accountable for "every jot and tittle" as another passage says. They've taken the "bits and pieces" of what they can understand, mixed it with outdated allegory and produced their own view of the truth. That's what makes religion what it is; it's merely MAN'S view of God. Then when someone begins to poke holes in their dogma, it pisses them off and before you know it, you've got more people fracturing the Word than living by it.

In Australia that question is simply put as some one's all ways got a blacker dog than you, or your slice of cake is sweeter than other's, is it better to look at a beautiful mountain or to stand on top of it.
Religion tells us to climb that mountain to succeed, and every religion is fighting to be at the top of a symbolic mountain.

Religion is the tension causer, they say love one another but only those who are like you but the Messiah said that even the wicked love their own,so what does that benefit you? To love those who love you?

because there are some major differences in teachings among various religions, and everyone wants their religion to be the one that's right, and nobody wants to admit that they could be wrong

For Christians, who are to spread the word of Jesus Christ, we are to teach in love, patience, kindness and service.
There are major differences in Religions who are not followers in Christ. Since we are trying to win souls for Jesus there is conflict. I believe all followers of Christ should unite, yes there are differences in bylaws but if we believe in the same Jesus, and have been baptized in water and the Holy Spirit, then we are in agreement. For all those who believe otherwise, we have to pray, live our lives are Jesus would and by example show others. People are so afraid of change. And by accepting Jesus as your savior, and surrendering your life to Him, you will change. You know you have tried everything else and failed, why not Try God? Call out to Him.
The Bible says:
16"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son.
19This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. 20Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. 21But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God."
