There is no way to stop shedding, other than shaving the dog. You can reduce shedding by feeding kibble without corn, wheat, or soy.

you cant really stop dogs from shedding. This is a natural thing most dogs do. To prevent the shedded hair from getting all over your carpet and home, you can use a pet brush a few times a day instead of just letting the hair fall out on its own. You can trim the hair so there isnt so much to shed, and you can bathe the dog more often..if the dog is losing too much hair, it could be diet related and you might want to check with a vet.

It may not be a question of whether you are grooming him/her enough.

Is this your first dog, puppy, adult or elderly? dog or bitc*? what breed?

Some breeds, like labs, tend to shed continuosly whether brushed daily or not. Others have thick undercoats that come out in convenient clumps when you groom. Some breeds shed all year in centrally heated properties and some produce upwards of 3 bin bags worth twice a year.

The only way to cut down on shedding has already been suggested, by grooming daily but if its in the breeds genetics to shed like that nothing you do will make a difference. (Still groom it daily anyway, its fun for you and the dog :)

Have you already got this dog or is it something you want to know before you get one? If you dont have one yet consider a Poodle or Bichon Frise, they need regular trips to the groomers for clipping (not shaving all over!) but do not shed anything more than the occassional hair that gets tugged during everyday activities. There are a couple of other breeds that do not shed but I cant recall them right now. A good breed encyclopedia will have all the info you need.

Good luck to you :) Oh, and invest in a Dyson vaccuum ;)

Do not shave your dog unless of course its a poodle. All dogs shed, especially in the summer. However, the shedding could be from different types of skin problems. I am a pre-vet student and I work in a vet clinic, and we often prescribe medications that can help control the problem. Shedding is really just a characteristic of a dog. You can also keep your dog clean and brushed, but avoid over bathing your dog because you can cause their skin to become overly dry and cause the dog more problems.

Its that time of year where dogs start dropping their winter coats.... Take him to a groomers and get him groomed. Tell them the dog is shedding and that you don't mind paying extra for a little more brushing than normal - see if they offer a shed-less treatment.

Try NOT to shave your dog unless it absolutely needs it (such as for a health condition) - a dog has its fur for a reason, it regulates body temperature and prevents it from getting sunburned.

After you get him home from the groomers, make a promise to yourself to brush the dog at least three times a week. Buy a slicker brush and an undercoat rake from a pet store - they work really well. (Don't brush too hard or for too long though, especially with the rake - the dog will get brush burn!)

Go to the pet store and get a grooming brush that is called a "rake" what that brush does is brush out the under coat which is what your dog is shedding. Brush the dog with that everyday outside and it ends the shedding process faster. You could also take the dog to a pet groomer and get it's hair shaved depending on what type of dog.

Pedigree dog food has a new food formula for excess shedding and you can also speak to your vet it you suspect that your dog is shedding more than normal. Excessive shedding could be a sign of a skin disorder or allergy. Most dog breeds except for poodles, will shedd hair. Poodles do not shed but must be trimmed regularly to keep there hair short. Since poodles do not shedd but continuly grow hair they can be trimmed up into those fancy haircuts one sees most poodles in. Have your vet check your dogs skin and diet and recommend a shampoo. Proper grooming is very important. Shaving your dog will not stop the shedding, it will only be shorter hair that is shed. Brushing your dog daily is good for him/her and you, it is a chance for both of you to relax together and bond.

Shedding is a natural process for dogs (and many animals). You cannot prevent shedding, but you can keep getting the hair everywhere at a minimum by regular grooming. Groom your dog outside or in a confined area daily. Also, a good balanced diet will also help keep his/her coat and skin healthy.

If theres enough hair to be annoying, then you arent grooming properly; your pooch needs brushing every day, not just once a week, and in warm weather he will need brushing more, as the heat will cause skin irritation. Brush the animal well, and use a rubber dog brush, not a metal one that can scratch the skin and cause infection.

You cannot stop shedding but you can reduce the amount of fur on your rugs and furniture by brushing your dog every day.
