There are still a few good ones, but most of them are slacking off because they don't care anymore since the students don't pay attention. Well most of them don't.

Why absolutely!
Good teachers are there for those seeking to be taught! One great phrase always rings a bell, "seek and you shall find". The truth is, what makes a great teacher, is equally just as much personal preference as it is teaching "ability". Reason is, what works well one individual, may not spark the same ability in another. At the end of the day, whats important to you? That you make a good grade, or that you learned something (or many things?).. From experience, there are many teachers that do both. College professors are a great place to start outlook for specific personas and individuality in teaching... because of the freedom they have to dictate material. As far as a teachers behavior, once again, thats your opinion and equally, what makes one cringe is what makes another joyous! good luck finding...and if that doesnt help, maybe that could inspire you to one day make a difference and be a teacher yourself! Teaching does that for so many in this world!
Good luck!

There are plenty of good teachers in the world. The problem is -Are there any good students anymore? I live in Cleveland and all you hear about in the news are the assaults on teachers and students by thugs. A teachers job is not to be a fight referee but to teach. Much of the blame falls on the parents( or in Cleveland's case-parent) who do not take the time to check on their kids. The US will fall behind, if not already, in the world market as our students are coddled with tests that are thrown out for being race-biased or gender-biased or whatever. Do you think that the world is going to make exceptions for students who did poorly in school. Hell no! They will end up in the welfare system like most of their parent(s), on drugs, in prison or with so many kids they can't support them all!!!

Yes there are! For me a bad teacher is not a bitchy one. If teacher knows how to make you to listen and understand what he or she is saying than he or she is a good teacher. The meaning of good teacher is a person who knows how to teach. In high school I had a great teacher of Latin. She wasn't friendly at all but I am sure that nobody could teach me Latin better than her!

Yes, but with the legislation involved as well as the low income, most qualified teachers are looking for better options. My husband loves history and teaching and is struggling to find a job because of lack of experience and teacher's certification. He also hates No Child Left Behind and other accountability practices forced on public schools so he's searching for a private school -which pays better and doesn't have to jump through as many hoops as public schools. Teachers and students alike are jumping ship when it comes to public schools. Those that can afford private schools are choosing them more and more. Charter schools are also giving more students options they wouldn't normally have. I know of public schools that now have to advertise. The system is slowly breaking down. I guess that's my tirade for the day.

sure are! but the key is for the student to develop responsible study habits and possible tutoring sources so as to overcome those teachers that aren't as capable or are only "there to collect a paycheck." I had a "paycheck" joker for Algebra 2 my 1st semester as a sophomore in high school and had to get tutoring outside of the school just to pass with a "C"-one of only two C grades I got in four years of high school! I've been a substitute teacher for over five seasons, and have met and worked for the good, the bad, and the ugly when it comes to teachers...in the future, if you are blessed with a good one, LET THAT TEACHER KNOW THEY MAKE A POSITIVE DIFFERENCE IN YOUR LIFE-even if it's only a sub for a day!

I have a 7 year old son, and I was wondering the same thing. But this past year, his teacher was so wonderful several of us parents tried talking her into moving up to the next grade so they would have her again. So to answer your question, there are still some out there. It just takes some time to find them.

I don't think they have any incentive to be good. They make a ridiculous amount of money especially since they only work 160 days a year, belong to the countries biggest union, and have not just the summer off but all the holidays and a week or two for some of them. many get summer jobs even though they already make alot more than most people. And to top it off, it's a fairly easy degree to get.

Off course. I happenn to play softball with two great teachers who day in and day out work hard to ensure their students get the best possible education. Perhaps a bitchy teacher is not a bad thing to have if she is able to make you a better student.

Yes. My good friend. Ms. Donna Stevens, 8th Grade, Oxnard, California. She even drives from another town to get there. She's as white as snow but LOVES her all Hispanic group. My Aunt is committed to her Special Education class. She has an autistic student and one that's rather violent but she keeps going. Oh, and my beloved Mom is teaching nursing again. They needed her so off she goes, back to the University. Supposed to be retired but wants all the people to have good nurses.

First of all, it is obvious from your grammar that your teachers were not good. You had AN over sensitive and ARE there any good teachers. In answer to your question...Yes, they teach at private schools and do not belong to a union.
