Macintosh is a type of Apple Computer. They were called Macintosh's because it's a better Apple and they are better than the old Apple III's and II's that Apple used to make. Now they are called iMac's eMac's and PowerMac's and the new BootCamp Apple Computers with the intel windows compatible chips have made people forget this name of the Apple computers.

Macintosh (Macs) are computers created by Apple Computer Inc, who also created the iPod mp3 portable music player craze. www.apple.com. Their logo is an apple.
Macs run on the Mac Operating System and are the major competitor to Window OS. They have less than 10% of the personal computing market but are favored by the publishing and media industry for the graphics capabilities, so that's their niche market. They're also considered very user friendly and easy to plug n' play.
