Yes, as a parent, I will watch over my child no matter what her grades are like in school. Making good grades is not the tell all sign that everything is okay in a teen's life. I will watch for signs that she is in an abusive relationship or that she is being tempted by her friends with drugs or alcohol. While doing this, I am also attempting to guide and direct her through open communication. It is truly a balancing act but for us, so far, so good.
It is my job, as a parent to make sure my child makes it to adulthood relatively unharmed. After that, what she chooses to do with her life and the choices she makes, good or bad, are her business. I will always love her and want the best for her.

YES YES YES To many times parents think--not my child till it is too late. I was a straight A student, with common sense and a lining of fear.... but I got into things- luckily nothing serious-Growing up is filled with decisions, just make sure you have equipped your child with COMMON sense. COMMUNICATE with your children- give them guidelines, borders and let them know you are there-no matter what. My mother and grandmother always told me- if you hear that voice in your head-- maybe this is not right-- I was take 5 minutes and rethink it. Kept me so busy I usually missed the event smile.

I feel as if a parent should always have a trust bond with their kids and let them know that there are certain bounderies that they shouldnt cross. But if they are suspicious, they have all rights to know their kids business.

But if the kids would show their parents that they have nothing to fear and be totally honest with their parents, then the parents wont question the kids and they wont have to feel suspicious of anything. Let your parents know who your friends are.

I know my daughters user name on just about every website she frequents , I view her xanga blog every few days ,she is not allowed to have a password for her user account on the computer so I can check her Internet history. She knows that if she deletes it and I even suspect that she does that she gets grounded. Her friends come over I insist on this .She has a's and b's in school so why do I do this because until she leaves home it is my job to keep her safe.

I would say that parents need to be involved no matter what.My mother was really involved with things I did and even though at times I didnt enjoy it, I can see how I benefited from it now. I appreciate her interest in my life and her influences.
