Ok first of all you should be ashamed for murdering the English language there. first of all, not every English person wears a Bowler hat. Its JOLLY well not golly.
To-may-to/ to-mar-to...who cares lets call the whole thing off.
Spellcheck sweety :) not Cheque.

Simple Answer, "To The Victors Go The Spoils", As we won our Independence we took what we wanted. Then later when you and the rest of the world were twice in deep trouble we came in and rescued you. Everyone wants our money, medical advancements, upper education and military support when it benefits them, then wants to turn around and bad mouth us for having a little bit of an ego. If you do not like it we can take ALL of our toys home and then what?

A few reasons:
America has Britain caught by the balls. You can thank Tony boy for that. Not in your children's lifetime will Britain invade America and "reclaim" anything.
Secondly, I feel that you're just frustrated by Britain's loss of 19th Centuary "prestige" and "superpower". Deal with it. Times have changed.

I am an American. Having lived in England for two years our family made many wonderful friends there. Your generalisation and some of the comments to this question really makes me feel sad. It's too bad you feel the way you do, I can't help my accent any more than you can.

And while you're at it, stop using all those French borrowings, like "language" and "respect" and "invade". Nothing wrong with the REAL English the REAL Anglos and Saxons and Jutes spoke.

Because our version of English is the American dialect. I'm assuming you're in England. England has it's own dialect.
Also, just because your version of English may have been or is the first version, it doesn't mean your version is the only valid version. Over time, things change. Get over it.

I agree! They shouldn't correct us on "hæmatology", "colour", "Åsophagus" or "cheque".
Or even putting punctuation outside of inverted commas; it's just saying 'this punctuation mark was not part of the text I'm quoting and therefore I will put it outside of the inverted commas to show this. (Except in speech).'
And why use a 'z', anyway? Analyse, colourisation, polarisation; these are better.
[Sorry if I seem a little harsh].

Although this fact does irritate me,as noted before american english is just an adaptation of english just as pidgen(spelt correctly) english is an extreme english dialect but doesnt sound anything like it`s origins.
