There are different reasons for vomiting - some are because of something in your stomach that shouldn't be there (like bad food, virus, blood) and some are because of messages being sent from your brain (smelling vomit, vertigo/dizziness, brain tumor).

I depends on a few things.
Did you throw up after eating something or because you were sick? If so then it's the bodies natural reaction to rid itself of some toxin that it can't deal with.
Throwing up for other reasons can vary from nerves to motion sickness to acid reflux. If you can't figure it out (if you didn't eat anything, aren't sick, etc., check with your doctor)

Vomiting is your bodies way to expel material. This can be due to ingesting material your body dislikes (food, too much alcohol) or if your body is under stress such as violent movements, anxiety, or confusion. Your stomach can also become upset if your angry or sometimes if your too uncomfortable( example: if you feel too hot in a room.)

When I was a young kid, my mother was painting the insides of the house, that's when I was overcame with the strong smell of paint. That made me throw up. And I'm seriously telling the truth.
