not too uncommon, but no science has explained it, or even labeled it.

There is no such "diagnosis" per se. I know I sufferred from it for years, and I don't know what to call it. I cannot stand pitterpatter on the keyboard, to this day. I felt like a freak for sure.

I wonder if seeing a pediatric neurologist/psychiatrist isn't worth a try?

I had this problem (and still do today). Go to a doctor that specializes in Ears and Hearing. A pediatrician will not be able to help as much, except to refer you to one.

With hypersensitive hearing, she may be prone to earaches, tinnitus and other annoyances that will make her whine and cry. Since you may not be aware of what is bothering her if you cannot hear the same things as she, you may think she is just being fussy.

My Ear doctor had me excused from the mandatory hearing test in school because of my sensitivity. And, I would have frequent earaches that would last for days. Once the problem is diagnosed, the doctor will give you solutions to what will be needed.

As a counselor, I suggest you have her evaluated by her physician..who might provide you a referral to an audiologist, child psychologist, or some other professional who might be able to provide some relief.
Good luck.

She might not like it or is afraid of it. But I would have her hearing checked to be on the safe side.
