keep them rear facing until 1
even if child is more than 20 pounds
by it saying that, it means even if the child is more than the weight specified but is under 1 then it needs to be rear facing

if the child is 1 and weighs over the weight specified its ok

if the child is 1 and under the wieght specifing then it needs to be rear!
so basically its weigth and age thats a factor....

Infant seats are designed for babies 20 pounds and under. Most car seats say 20 pounds or 1 year old. It is pretty much what ever comes first. If the baby is almost 20 pounds you should move him or her to a bigger carseat. If it is getting hard for you to carry him or her in the infant seat since its heavy then you really should change car seats.

I have a car seat thatis a rear facing/forward facing. It can go either way. I have 11 month old facing forward and have for 2 months now. She was getting to big tosit rear facing. She weighs 18pounds and will be a year old this month.

Most carseats get recalled after a certain time frame. That could be why it says not to use after 12/06. They tend to come up with newer better car seats.

Your best bet for a car seat woul be a 5-45pound one. An infant/ toddler seat. You can get more use out of them and they are wonderful. If you still dont fell comfortable with putting your baby forward facing then still turn her around. It is realy your desgression. I live on a military post and they even told me its okay if you face your baby foward if the legs are bunched up rear facing.

I have a seven month old also, and his pediatrician said he needs to remain rear facing until his first birthday no matter what his weight is. We just bought one of the convertible seats and it holds up to 40 pounds and can be used forward facing or rear facing.

As for question 2...I think they put dates on the car seats because they are planning on putting a new updated seat on the market. I'm not really sure. You could always get online or call and check the manufacturer's reasons

Keep the baby facing toward rear until one year old, most babies are large enough at that time to face front. If your baby is quite small ask your baby's doctor.
Not sure about the second situation, seems strange. Hope you find an answer!

As far as I know children have to be rearfacing until they are at least 1 yr old AND 21 lbs. That was the latest law.

Maybe the carseat makers won't send out recalls after that date, to parents owning that carseat.
