Try the salvation army store closest to you, they have lots of inexpensive items that are practical, you might even find some bungi cords to help you keep track of him.

He is 18 months old for heaven's sake! He is exploring. Granted he does need to be supervised. He is no longer an infant! He is going into a toddler stage. He will not like being strapped down. What about a baby gate to put up so he can not get into places that he shouldn't , yet he would be safe.

Do you want something to put him in and then strap him on your back or a carseat? Get a backback carrier.

You can go to the police station and they will give you one or good will will carry them. But if you need it to keep your child out of stuff in your house then you need to get a playpen or plastic fence that you can clip together.

Just throw him in the trunk with his pepsi/jolt bottle, some oreos and his favorite set of BBQ-er utensils. It's not too hot yet.

The baby backpacks work well for toddlers. I used to cart my little one around in it all the time.
