If it is a hit... it was a bad one. Did you witness the car striking the dog? If so then you may want to take it to a vet asap.
Perhaps you just think the dog got hit because it ran from the roadway? Maybe it was bitten by another dog? Is the piece still there? Please call your areas emergancy vet. Sounds like it needs a veternaries attention no matter what happened
If money is the fear, have a realistic amount in your mind you will pay... Like $250 and tell the vet if it looks as if the amount will exceed that... then you will just have to put the animal to sleep. They may feel compassion and give you a price break or advise you to put your pet down. But no matter the price you decide, do not let them think if they scare you or make you feel quilty it will work to get more money out of you.
Please accept this loving last notation FENCE YOUR ANIMALS IN YOUR YARD TO PROTECT THEM FROM OTHER ANIMALS AND VEHICLES. Part of the cost of a pet is restraint system.

Hmmm well you should definitley take it to the vet. I think you should treat it like any deep bloody wound and apply pressure to keep it from bleeding until you can get it to a vet. And make sure the dog doesn't bite or lick it , or it could get infected

Take it to the vet right away because if it won't stop bleeding then there is a chance that one of the arteries might be cut

Apply pressure and get your damn dog to a vet! If she was hit by a car, there could be much more serious internal injuries. Go, NOW!!!

Take the dog to the vet right away. She might be in shock and you don't know what internal injuries she may have. This is not something you can handle yourself.
