I've had it. It's just like regular wine but sweeter.

Ice wine is *not* strictly canadian. Not even close. In fact, the best ones are German Eisweins (pronounced Ice Vines).
There are some that are good and some that are awful. It's a matter of preference and quality. The better ones will be sweet without being syrupy.
And Ice Wine has very specific qualifications (kind of like Champagne). There are many other 'late harvest' wines that are just as good as Ice Wines - the difference being that the grapes are frozen post-harvest whereas traditional Ice Wine, or Eiswein, has them frozen while still on the vines.

Traditionally, Icewine is German but Canada makes the best and is the most consistent in making it. The German wineries will only make icewine in good years (every 5 years or so). Canada, and in particular Ontario more than British Columbia, makes it every year and wins awards every year for it. It's because we have the climate for it and we get the cold temperatures early enough (normally within the first two weeks of December).
There is a reason why we win the awards too...it's because it's amazing. Our winemakers can get the proper balance of sweetness and acidity every time. Now, not everyone likes it because it is sweet but it is popular enough to hold an annual festival right at ice time picking.
They can be a bit pricey due to limited supply we get from the grapes but it is well worth that price. Personally, I think there's nothing better and most of my cellar is either icewine or late harvest wine. If you've never had a chance to try it, I would tell you to go ahead and do so.

ice wine is not necessarily Canadian wine, but the wine made from grapes that have been frozen..
Germany also makes an excellent ice wine. Its sweet like a Port wine and usually drank as an apertif or dessert wine in small sherry glass.
Really yummy!!!

Ice wine is truly worth it. its very sweet, elegant and delicious like most late harvest or desert wines.the grapes are Left ton the vine longer than any other grape to let the natural sugars develop and then freeze and concentrate. this natural process is risky for the grapes have to be picked at just the right time. it also makes the price of ice wine very expensive since each grapes juice has concentrated the yield per grape is that of maybe 1/8 of a non ice wine grape. so it takes a producer 8 times as much fruit to produce one bottle.you can get cheaper versions of ice-wine that use grapes frozen inside instead of on the vine.

Yep I have. I did like it, it's very sweet. I can see where someone may not like it, if they don't enjoy that taste, but I personally have a sweet tooth! It was good, to me it almost tasted like very sweet juice!
