I have to say that I am on the fence at this topic. Should we be in Iraq, does it compare to Vietnam, give your reasons why or why not? Be nice everyone, no need to bash anyone on their beliefs.

If you know anything other than what the media depicts about the two wars, you will know that there are very few similarities between the two conflicts. Any similarities would required stretching the truth in each conflict.

One unfortunate similarity in both conflicts is that people died. Some died in combat fighting for a cause while others died needlessly because they were in the wrong place at the wrong time. Hopefully, one day the leaders of this world will understand that no one really wins in a war and will find better ways to resolve their differences.

As an Iraq vet, this comparison bothers me the most since it makes no sense. In Vietnam we were trying to prevent a communist coiuntry to the nroth from invading an ally. In Iraq our goal was regime change and establishing democracy. There is no draft anymore. Instead of doing one 1-year tour most people do1-3 tours in the same enlistment. Women are on combat situations. It's different in almost every way. When I try to pin people down on how it is similar, they just say that it has gone on too long and that some people are against it. Well no joke. Read history, the US public didn't even want to fight Hitler until we were attacked personally.

There are similarities everywhere. Just cause this is not fought in jungle doesn't mean we know who we are fighting. In all wars the guriellas fight in a hit and run. We fight in a hit an run tactic ourselves. We took Rhamadi then we gave it back then we take it again. Sound familiar to you? No there is no draft but everyone that swears his oath has to be prepared for whatever. One big difference is the VC wanted the whole country. The insurgents of Iraq don't know what the hell they want. They are extremist with no lives and never will have lives for they live in the 14 century mindset. Al-Zarqawi didn't even know what he wanted, beheading US Amricans even pist off his own leaders for they were senseless killings. Then to condemn US Marines when come under fire protect themselves from the extremist. That is from the Liberal news brainwashers such as fat idiot Michael Moore.

No. Iraq is a war. Vietnam was (and still is) a police action. We are in Iraq for a few reasons; Freedom for the Iraqi people and to help them build a Government with military protection for themselves. We went to Vietnam to support the Vietnamese from getting overthrown by Communist.

Not in my opinion. No draft, accomplishing goal in Iraq - date of withdrawal set, democratic election held, democratic leaders elected. None of these things occurred in Vietnam & 58,226 soldiers were killed not 2,600 like in Iraq. I can not see the similarities.
