If you want a religious answer(which to me is the true answer by the way,) the bible says when you die, you basically DIE. All your thoughts, your life, your existence, is erased you no longer exist here or anyways for that matter. But good for us, it also talks about a "ressurection" in a near future, so not all is lost.

If you want a more scientific answer, there has never really been any Proven evidence of life after death apart from the Experiences people have lived but you have no way of believing it.

yes here is why i say yes
people who have near death experiences all have this complete feeling of peace. When we die the body pumps endorphins into our brains. Why? what reason would this happen. At that point the only thing that can bring you back is advanced medicine. Advanced medicine is a new invention. So what reason is there for the endorphins. Has nothing to do with passing on genes. The only reason I could think that death actual death is kind is that we are going on a trip.

What happens at death--

Ecclesiastes 12:7 "Then the dust will return to the earth as it was, and the spirit will return to God who gave it."

Psalm 146:4 "His spirit departs, he returns to the earth; in that very day his plans perish."

ECCLESIASTES 9:5 "FOR THE LIVING KNOW THAT THEY SHALL DIE: BUT THE DEAD KNOW NOT ANY THING, NEITHER HAVE THEY ANY MORE A REWARD; FOR THE MEMORY OF THEM IS FORGOTTEN." (ECCL.12:7)

SHEOL OR HADES, THE FIRST HELL
The first term in Greek and Hebrew means the grave. It's the grave where the dead await the resurrection.
GENESIS 37:35---I SHALL GO DOWN INTO THE GRAVE.
PROVERBS 15:11--HELL & DESTRUCTION ARE BEFORE THE LORD.
ECCLES.9:10---NO WORK...OR KNOWLEDGE...IN THE GRAVE.
MATT.11:23---WILL BE BROUGHT DOWN TO HADES
1COR.15:55---O HADES, WHERE IS YOUR VICTORY

When we die, we are in a deep sleep. We do not know we are dead, but the next moment we awaken, if we awaken (if we are righteous) we will rise to meet Jesus in the air (the second coming). We have a new life with Jesus, sin-free. We are not born another person or a cat or dog.
If we were not righteous, will will be burned in a consuming fire, that kills us forever. This is not a fire that we burn in forever. We burn, die, and no longer exist.

The wages of sin is death. We all have to die because we were all born of sin through adam and eve. Jesus Christ died on the cross to take the sin from us, that who ever believes and has faith will have eternal life in Gods kingdom, Our souls don't die they simply move to heaven or hell.
Who accepts Jesus as their savior and asks forgiveness for there sins has eternal life in heaven.

"Life" and the universe are the same thing.

A life form (the human body) is transitory. Our conscious awareness (thinking) ends when our brains stop working.

But, our bodies continue to live as part of the great recycling process we know as "evolution." Our bodies become part of the earth which in turn become plants and animals including the human animal.

It is a never ending process. The end of thinking is not the end of life, it is just one event in the process.

The Bible says that when u die, ur breath which is ur soul goes back to God, and ur body rests in the grave until Jesus comes back to this earth. Alot of people get this really confused thinking that when u die, ur spirit goes to heaven or hell. But if u really study ur Bible sooo well, u will discover that ur spirit is simply ur breath.

When we die, if we die before judgment ... I don't know what happens. But, the Bible states that there is life after death. Either heaven or hell.
