No news like bad news - reporters credo.

Its a lose/lose situation.

If they report only good news 1. people will not buy. Sucky as it is people are not interesting in little Timmy finding his dog, or the local masons chapter building a new bike rack. 2. People will think the news is doing a cover up/soft sell for the admin/(insert your favorite political reason here) because they hear other news and want to REALLY know whats going on. They want to know if their son/brother/uncle/friend/dad whatever is coming home and a story about Timmy does not tell them that.

I think it is also about scope. If a car bomb goes off and kills 50 people that is most likely going to be more important more...newsworthy then most other good works. News has limited print space/air time and if they have to choose between 50 people blown up or a new school being build well a new school is nifty but its not as important as 50 people dying.

ALL NEWS IS BAD STUFF... LOCAL, NATIONAL, INTERNATIONAL...

I don't have time to watch everyone that's planting flowers and doing what they should be doing... I need to know what bad things are going on, both in Iraq and everywhere... and that's all I have time for... I don't care about a local girl scout troop helping an old lady across the street...

If they reported all the good and bad stuff from all around the world... it would be like 5 hours long

and besides... every now and then they have a fluff peice that talks about it... watch the news once in a while and you will see it..

Curly: I have seen all those good things reported on CNN... all in very positive lights? where is the bias?

The media freaks out when it doesn't have control. Look at Bush going to Baghdad today and they didnt know. Pulled one over on them - ha! Keep the people under the spell of the press and newspapers will sell. I work with reporters on a daily basis and believe me when you see them from a personal standpoint you know what they go thru to come up with something to print. The one responder above is right - ask a soldier.

The media does not like George Bush. There is a definite liberal bias by the media.

Of course there is good news from Iraq. A new democracy is started. A vicious dictator has been removed and is standing trial for his crimes.

The terrorist group Al Quida is being dismantled and they are being shown like the cowards that they are.

Putting it simply, good news doesn't sell. So in order to sell (which at times could be taken as selling their souls) the media tracks the worst of the very worst as they salivate to the Pavlovian clamour of dom and gloom. That is their goal as well as their hate for the FCC since several "Celebrities" and "Personalities" were fined for obscenity and blame the current administration for this. So any positive actions and true news will be far outweighed by questionable boundless efforts to spread doom and gloom. It gives a new meaning to "Liberal Arts".

Because as long as they report just the bad stuff, it keeps people in a state of hopelessness and that eventually leads to them turning on their President.

They are doing a lot of good there, there are some blogs out there run by servicemen who are trying to get the good news into the press, but no one wants to print anything good.

because there is nothing good to say about war. war is probably the most worst thing that can happen to people and people families.
no family wants to here this on the news.
" yesterday in Iraq was probably the most brutal day of them all, over 100 american soilders died. In other news today was probably the funnest day the soldiers will ever have in that scorching whether"

If you want to hear about the good news in Iraq, and the things we have helped the Iraqi people accomplish, turn off your TV and ask a Soldier.

Media's left bend. They don't want to say anything that might sound pro-USA or pro-Bush. They need to keep beating them down to improve the chances of a democrat winning the next presidency.
