I do not know the total reason for this. But I have a friend that just went through medical school, and the lesson on bedside manners was a one-day course, compared to 6 years of medical school. If we want them to ne nicer, maybe the education needs to be changed.

I'm not sure, but it truly is a horrible trend that I have noticed too. It could be because they have more patients and less time to spend with them all? It could be because they have become jaded and burnt out, and have forgotten how important it is to be a good listener to your patients and be compassionate.
Someone once told me "it is called the PRACTICE of medicine for a reason: doctors don't know everything, even if they think they do." Doctors need to remember that. They can misdiagnose or miss an important detail so it is important to listen to what their patient is telling them.

Less time to be with patients. Because of the pressure of making money, doctors are alotted only so much time to deal with each patient. So, they are usually unable to deal with anything that is not straight forward. There are so many diseases that have the same symptoms, but time to examine for them is so limited their attitudes reflect the frustration of not being able to do a good job or even their jobs.

I would say that Doctors don't have the one on one with their patients that they really need, and also because some Doctor's are greedy and just want to make the money. I have actually been around quite a few Doctors who arent very nice to their patients at all and its really aggravating!!!

On the average doctors spend 9 minutes with a patient. And they have a quota to make, and money.

It could be they are overwhelmed and have so many patients that do not have coverage and a lot that do have medical coverage there may not be a lot of doctors that can see millions of sick people with or with out coverage. A lot of times they can feel overwhelmed with so many different illness that they seem like it never ends by seeing one right after another...

I don't find that doctors are rude or less helpful - if one were to be rude or less helpful, he would no longer be my doctor and my word of mouth recommendation would not be good, they provide a service for money - just take your business else where.

Medicine, like all other aspects of modern life has become more cold and impersonal. Today, we see many doctors, many specialists. People move around more... not like small town living of yesterday, when everyone knew the family doctor who made house calls.

I know how you feel. I think they are lazy, take our money and see ya later. I just changed Drs. for the same reason. So far I just see the Nurses practioner and pay the same price as if I saw the DR. Whats with that?!
