War always seems more urgent.

Most governments are spending considerable sums of money on alternative energy technology development and implementation, but it pales in comparison to what is spent each year for fossil fuels or defense, let alone the amount already invested in petroleum infrastructure.

The good news is that as oil prices keep going up, many of the alternative energy sources previously considered uneconomical are now cost effective.

There is more money to make in oil refining. When everybody wakes up and realizes this, there will be a bigger push towards alternative fuels. Or buy stock in oil companies.
