so, i've been soul searching really, and i've looked into all kinds of religions. i've reached a point where i really just need to sit down with someone and work this all out but i don't know who to go to. . .a catholic priest will tell me that cathlochism is the right thing, a rabbi will tell judaesm is right. i don't want that what do i do?

also if you are here and you decide that i need to be lectured on how there is only one god and i can only receive salvation through jesus christ, save it for someone else i've heard that crap way too many times and i am not in the mood for it. thanks

Try beliefnet.com. It has a test that will tell you what belief system you are closest to. From there, you can search the net for info to see if it fits your life. It's a unbiased third party, unlike any person could be.

There is not a single person who would not try to persuade you that his way is the right way.

You are very confused. You don't want to go to the Jews, you don't want to go to the catholics, and you have rejected Jesus. Why do you want spirituality in your life?

If you really want spiritual guidance, you have to have a clear mind that is searching for truth. But your mind is already biased, and as such, you will be led by your own ideas rather than the truth. Don't reject anything unless it can be proved wrong without any doubts.

There are a lot of options in the world, but you will have to decide which one is the best.

Do not rely on feelings because you will be wrong every time. Use clear reasoning. If you choose to accept chrisitanity, study the Bible to know what it teaches, and then find a church that teaches what the Bible teaches.

Or, you can make a board with all of the worlds religions and hang it on your wall, then throw a dart at it.

I've walked my own individual path and studied spirituality and religion for about 18 years now. I grew up in a Christian family but it did not feel right for me nor did it feel at home. I love finding out who I am and why I am here with my nose a book endlessly on these topics. I am always soul searching on a daily basis.

After doing this for so long now, I'm 35 now, I finally found my "home", my "destination" where I am meant to be and the timing was all perfect. So I totally understand what you are going through. We each all have our own individual paths and ways that feels right to our Soul. There is no wrong way, just whatever helps you get to your destination.

If you'd like, you can discuss this topic with me on yahoo IM or email me. I am a nonbiased person and only believe that Love is the most important thing that one should have in their life.

Only you know in your heart if what you feel is the truth or not. The great philosophers of wisdom all basically said the same things when looking at the world as a whole, and in any religion the main point of any is to treat others with the same respect and consideration that you would want for yourself....so to be open-minded and unconditional toward all living beings and to accept everyone and thing for what it is, would be far better than to spend the rest of your life trying to figure out if the "name" you put to "your type of belief" is the right way.

Many people I know do not align themselves with any one religion, rather they refer to themselves as "spiritual" or "on a spiritual quest." Judging only from your question, it seems that this would describe you.

In response to your question, my first impulse is to say go to the Dalai Lama. Although he is a Buddhist, his teachings promote religious harmony and understanding among the world’s major religious traditions. You may want to check out his website, www.dalailama.com.

Also, there is a website that I have been going to for about a year called "The Reluctant Messenger of Science and Religion". It is a very unbiased look at the truths in all religions as well as science. I find it fascinating.

The third place I would recommend to you would be www.wolflodge.org. This is the site of the late Robert Ghost Wolf, with a great deal of information on things relating to Native American spirituality.

When I was going through that, I went to the library and found this reference book ( I don't remember the name of it) that contained all the religions in the world. As I was looking through it I realized that what I needed was a list of each religions beliefs. I found what I was looking for in the Articles of Faith of the Church of Jesus Christ of latter-day Saints. For you it might be different. But my suggestion is to go to the library find a similar book, and make notes of the different religions that have things you like/agree with. Then pray about it. Be specific. Try praying about each religion seperately. Look for things you agree with and disagree with. When you have a reasonably short list, say four or five, then do some more praying and find a friend who is of that faith and ask them some of your questions. If they refer you to someone else meet with that person, but preface the meeting by making it clear to that person what you want and don't want to happen with the meeting. I think it comes down to prayer and what brings you the most peace.

Just because a person is attached to one particular faith doesn't mean they're biased--being biased is an attitude. If you ever feel uneasy like you're only getting one side of any story that's the best time to sit down with someone else and get another point of view. I would also suggest finding debate transcripts online. That's a great forum to read straight facts and not only one person's conclusions.

Likewise, I love talking to people about their soul-searching and try to be as open as possible. If you like, email or message me and we could have chat.

If you are having problems on where to turn, you need to know how you stand, If going to a priest or rabbi, scares you on the thought of being swayed, sit down and ask God. The answers will be within you, cause only God can know your heart.

A very wise female senior citizen. They have lived many years and have gleaned from life's experiences. A young person has not been there- done that yet, so stay away. Many adults are book wise or only interested in adding another body to their religious rosters.

Embracing God takes a serious committment, so do not take it lightly. Richard
