Forget the Mazda3 or any other Mazda for that matter. They are great looking cars that will not hold up and quickly depreciate. (I just took a 2004 Mazda 3s with 24k Miles and 18" Wheels on trade in for $11k) And, it needs 3 or 4 things fixed already. If you are looking for immediate performance and don't plan on many modifications, the SVT is not bad. If you are looking to do customize and modify the car, you can't beat the SI for the availability of accessories and performance parts. It will also be by far the most dependable vehicle of the three. Although the styling is a little dated, I would recommend the previous generation Civic Si (Coupe, not a Hatch). The possibilities for this vehicle are endless.

Now I love Honda, but the Si hatchback made from 02 to 05 is a lame duck. The SVT certainly outclasses it. I've owned a Focus ZX3 and it was great. Sure, the Honda is crisp and feels solid as a rock, but it's missing the fury usually behind the Si moniker and seems to be a little compromised. I'm a Mazda freak, the 3 is a great underrated car. Due to my partialness, it would be my pick. But there are reasons: best looks, willing underrated engine, typical Mazda shifter (perfect), and the simple fact that Mazda always has the ability to build a car around human emotion rather than complete logic. (i.e. Miata, RX-7, MX-3, new CX-7, etc.) Others to look at: Subaru WRX, VW GTI, Sentra SE-R, Cobalt SS (yes, from Chevy, don't underestimate it). Ignore: Cavalier, any Neon, Corolla (sooo boring), Ion (different tuning than Cobalt, dull), Caliper, Sunfire. Good luck in your search for the machine that fits you. Later.

Honda Civic Si, definitley! First off, Japanese cars sell for much more after 8 years then an America car and their engines are GREAT! I have a 1999 Honda Civic that I have driven to Canada and back 4 times for Florida and all it needed was an oil change. Hondas are very low-maintenance cars. I love them.

We recently bought a new car,but we were looking at the cars you have on your list when we were told to check out VW. If you get a certified used the full warranty goes until 74,000 miles with roadside assistance. We have had our Passat for about a month and its an awesome car.

THE HONDA CIVIC Si IS VERY TEMPTING. BUT YOU COULD ALSO GO FOR A SIX-SPEED FOUR CYLINDER NISSAN SENTRA SE-R.
