Expensive! The weather is great most of the year, traffic is horrific all of the time, there is a lot to do and see, but it is becoming a battle between haves and have nots. Our schools are poorly performing and over crowded. In San Diego, we pay the highest price for gasoline. The mountains and beaches are beautiful. Earthquakes are very scary, but we hardley ever get rain. House prices are outrageous as is rent. But, we all love living here and put up with all of the problems!

I am a native Southern Californian and my husband is a native Northern Californian. We live in Southern California now. I like California, except that it is a rip off now - too expensive and hubby and I are both legal professionals!!! We make a very decent income, so you know if we think it's expensive then it is. Anyway, you have to live in a more expensive area to get away from most crime and to have your kids in a good school district. You pay extra to live in a safer area. We are moving to Texas in about 6 months. I don't think either of us will regret leaving California. It's nice, but overrated in many ways. Oh yeah, and did I mention we have an illegal immigration problem in California? I won't even go into that! The traffic in California is horrendous too. If you live in the more urban areas, you have no quality of life. So a lot of people live outside of the city but commute in to work. My husband commutes from the Palm Springs area (where we live) to Los Angeles to get to work. He spends anywhere from 5 to 7 hours in drive time for a round trip.

If you like horrible traffic, Mexicans everywhere you look, almost as many blacks, smog, unfriendly people, crowded beaches, hot weather, high prices, and much more then by all means move to Southern California. But if you want just the opposite of all of that and still want to live in California then the norhtern part might fit your needs. I lived in Southern California for 15 years and never regretted leaving.

i am born and raised in southern cali, moved to North Carolina couple years ago. Dont regret it a bit. Cali is real nice on T.V if you live in Malibu, make 500,000 year and live by the beach. other than that, it is the most diverse population in the world. Over populated and violent crime every 2 seconds. Move somewhere else unless you love Mexicans and Blacks!!

socal is the best place in the world, with the most beautiful weather, women and scenery. Plus if your in LA or pretty much anywhere in socal, the one hour rule applies and you can go to the beach, desert, forest, mountains, snow all within an hour (depending on time of year for snow).
