I help at a vet's office and personally I think your cat is bored. It needs more things to do. Toys or maybe just personal time with you. Remember, the are descendants of the big cats. Ripping things are in their blood

Probably the same reasons kids do it, boredom settles in and they find it entertaining. Just buy plenty of toys especially ones you can hang from door knobs.....my cat loved those he shredded them eventually, but kept him from being destructive with things that didn't belong to him.

Maybe your cat needs more toys to play with, or he/she just likes the feel of it. My cat likes to chew on cardboard!

cats love to use there claws. They need to sharpen them so they claw on everything. You have to learn what your cat likes and not put it out, almost like baby proofing your house. My cat loves bread, so i have to hide mine but she tries to get into place she almost has opening cupbards down pat. Good luck and if worst comes to worse get her declawed. but that is painful to the cat.

Get your moggie a scratching post - cats keep their claws in good condition by scratching and stops them over growing.
