Only improve. I know that the barin is a muscle and like any other muscle it must be used to get stronger. If a brain sits in front of the TV and is only required to pay attention for 5 minutes at a time, it will adapt. Pretty soon the attention span gets shortened and the memory suffers. I know when I play my sudoku and crossword games I improve my attention span because they require focus for long periods of time. I imagine games that involve more memory improve the memory more.

They will improve your memory,
puzzles are a wonderful opportunity to exercise your brain, just like other parts of the body, working the brain makes it more efficient,i read once that people who do puzzles are less likely to have memory problems when they are older.
I find puzzles are also excellent opportunities to test your own abilities, learn new words or sharpen your skills. In the case of jigsaw puzzles for instance the pride of finishing it is worth the effort.
puzzles are great

Well in my oppinion, they can both improve and damage your memory. If you concentrate to hard, you are putting some stress on your brain. Yet, if you concentrate hard enough and figure the puzzle out, you can improve your brain and possibly learn something.

Puzzles improve many aspects of your brain. Your memory, how you analyze things, concentration. I have never heard of any damaging your brain, unless they are in the form of a video game.

Puzzles that are not factual put the wrong ideas into peoples brains, but puzzles that test & extend your knowledge can help improve your memory, and reduce the chance of developing alzheimers.

If anything puzzles would exercise your brain, and that can only help. When you are visually scanning over hundreds of pieces you are trying to match up shapes, color and texture, so there's a lot of input and concentration going on. If anything is going to damage your brain it would seem that doing nothing at all to stimulate it would be far worse. Stagnation never seems to make anything stronger.
