I very recently (today) stepped on a fellow Veterans toes and have since appologised. How many of you out there, even in another country, have personally thanked your Veterans for their service? They deserve it in this day and age.

I thank all veterans I meet, & also look for them (bumber stickers, shirts, etc.) to thank them. With all the liberals out there always bitching about the war it takes away from what they do & what they have already did. American soldiers are risking their lives all over the globe defending America's interests and defending the freedoms that many people take for granted, the only right thing to do is thank them & pray for them & their families. God bless the USA & all its patrons!

Thanking American Veterans?

I have, personally, thanked for instance, my husband, a Korean Conflict veteran who served in Germany during the Cold War, instead of being sent to Korea, as he asked to be. His job there was pretty dangerous, too, as he had to blow up left-over WWII bombs that were still being found. I have also thanked friends who are Viet Nam vets, young relatives now involved in Iraq, etc. There are also many charitable organizations who have been the recipient of as much as we can afford to donate to them. (And many more just as deserving organizations we can't afford to help, but which others are supporting one would hope!) Those people who have the "Support our Troops" bumper stickers, and magnetic ribbons on their vehicles are doing the same, don't you think? You are right, today's heroes should be thanked--as should veterans of all our wars. In "the old days", service men were away from home and families for much longer than today's soldiers--3 or 4 years, maybe, and there was no such thing as communicating by cell phone, no video cameras sending tapes home, etc., so in my opinion in some ways today's troops have it easier!

As a veteran I appreciate what each of you has said. I also take solace in the fact that every time I see a protest, even the ones against the Military, or hear people speak out about the way things are being done in our government, and even though they may not realize it, they are saying thank you too. Especially when the claim Freedom of speech.

I have thanked several, some are in my family, they range in age from 25-89 yrs old. I try to always thank veterans but we have some bitter Viet Nam Vets - they are just plain mean. I have several family members that went to Viet Nam - some joined, some drafted - but none with such an attitude. May God bless every Veteran.

My brother is a veteran two times over, and every time he came home eather on a break or perminately, I thanked him. Also there is an Army base near my house and when I got to Startbucks often times I see service pople and buy their coffee for them. And you know what I am so prud of my brother for his service, and admire all those who offer it even my friends who just graduated from the Naval Academy.

I agree. I guess there probably aren't too many of us that just walk up to a vet and thank them. We should though. So, to all veterans out there right now...THANK YOU! I appreciate all you have done. I know we get all defensive about our politics here, but we can put that aside and thank you for your service.

No one thanks me for doing my job. It's their job. It's the profession they chose. How many of you thank your garbage man for taking out the trash or the firemen for keeping your home safe. How about anyone at the grocery store for providing you with food ? I guarantee you not one of those soldiers is walking around thinking of themselves as heroes and in need of thanks. They are soldiers, they are paid to do a job and they do it. You want to thank them? Then support them. Keep your mouth shut about what an unjust war we're in and when they come home tell them what a good job they did. A pat on the back is all they need.
