For LA County, Manhattan Beach is a very nice beach community but a little pricey. If you are looking for beach but affordable, there's Redondo Beach and Hermosa Beach. For even more affordable, there's Long Beach but there's places that are a bit scary.
Of course, there's Santa Monica, Malibu, and Venice area.
In the OC there's Seal Beach, Huntington Beach, all the way down to Newport Beach.

In California there are a ton of beachy cities. Huntington Beach, Seal Beach, Hermosa, Redondo, Belmont Shores, Naples, Newport, Laguna (but not after that show came out), Carlsbad, Malibu, Playa Del Ray - just to name a few. Cities with "Beach" at the end are a good bet.

Edisto Island in South Carolina is a very quiet secluded island that has a great beach and several affordable houses. It is a realtively inexpensive place to live and it is close to great places like Charleston or Beaufort South Carolina where you can go for nightlife, etc. Also any small island around Charleston is very nice as well.

I have to say Gloucester, Massachusetts. It's so beautiful. The beach is wonderful with the rocky cliffs beside it. Many rich people live there. The place is also known to have a sea monster that lives off of Gloucester's coast. There are many types of whales living in the area and they are fascinating to watch.

I would advise Sunset Beach, North Carolina. It has gorgeous white sand and good weather. There is also no crime rate. Five minutes away is the town of Calabash. Also, Myrtle Beach is less than 15 minutes away.

Carlsbad, CA drive on down the coast to North County (San Diego) its beautiful here...the ave house price is about 800,000
