I wouldn't think if your hair is brown that you will see much result. The tea will stain your hair temporarily. So if you try it there won't be much damage if it doesn't give you the desired look you're after. As for turning orange, you're not leaving the chemicals, lemon juice, etc. on long enough, or you are trying to go TOO light. Maybe save yourself a lot of time, and money in the long run and just go to a salon and have it colored????

Don't do that!!!!!! I saw someone say ash brown earlier and, if you are doing this yourself ( I dont recommend this the 1st time- especially not if your hair is dark brown) they're right. First do "Ash brown" that takes the gold and reddish out of your hair. Then you'll have to wait 3 or 4 days and go to the beauty supply store and buy " Ultra Blue"- that will do it. Again- this is ONLY if you have to do yourself. Going blonde is hard on your own- especially the 1st time- and it's only like $40 at the hairdresser.

Yeah I heard of that too. Don't worry I don't think nothing bad will happen. I have also heard about putting beer in your hair. I'm not sure if you have tried it but their is this spray that you can put on your hair--they you go in the sun or use a hot blowdryer. It actually works pretty well and looks nice. But my original hair color is light brown. Good Luck!!!

you have to remeber that you hair is made up of three priamry colors (any licenced cosmetolgist would be glad to give you this information) a blue layer, a Red layer and a yellow layer,
If you hair is dark , black, brown you have all three present in equal amounts to give you the dark color. This is the hardest to remove once you remove the darkest (Blue) your left with red and yellow this is why you have brassy or orange hair when you use bleach or chemical lightners. As well as lemon juice.
Tea bags will only stain your hair and after a few shampoos it will be gone. Most likely wont show up in darker hair. It is best not to place to manny diffrent things on your hair without a professional consultation. Usually these are free with an apointment.
The best suggestion I can give you for dark hair is lighten to a Brassy stage and then add in a color that your wanting to be Like for example a Light, medium or Dark ash blonde (ash has a green hue to it) and as anyone knows red and green will make brown.
Of coures this is going to depend on any prefrence you have on how light you want your hair to be exactly. If I were you I would get this done professionaly first and ask questions ask your stylist what they are mixing and get as much information as you can any good cosmetolgist will make sure to have a written file on what has been done to your hair
I have oftern had clients ask me for thier cards when they move away this will help them to get a new stylist to give them their color without any guess work. Without seeing your hair to help give you advice is a tough one, although from you have said this should work.
However I do strongly suggest you consult with a professional. most salons will give you a consult for free I have clients that can mantain thier own hair in between services and I'm always more than glad to give them advice and help them with their color selecting process. this will help build any relationship I have with them.
you must also keep in mind that there are diffrences in Salons
If your just cutting you may wnat to look at places that offer bargin cuts like supercuts, master cuts etc. this type of salon is good for maintence or inbetween service work. they charge less for a reason. They have on going trainings IN thier salons for thier stylists
If your going to have you hair stylied colored or permed you should look in to high end salons like Aveda, Vidal Sasson etc. These salons are have extencive classes for thier stylists these classe usually involve travel and they require their stylist to have ongoing education for a higher job standard and doing their best services is their montra.
The diffrences in attitude always depends on how you comunicate with your stylist. Dont try to speak like a professional just simply tell them what your looking for and discuss the problems you have had in the past. and above all dont belittel any previous work you have had. Stylists may see you as a hard to please client. Be the most postive upbeat person you can. However don't be afraid to voice any conserns you may have.

I recommend that you go to a professional at a salon for this one. I haven't heard of someone trying to lighten their hair color using this method, but I have heard of people using Kool-Aid for hair color (with disastrous results) and I don't recommend that you do it too. It could damge your hair, and besides, hair color is made of chemicals. However, Ganier does have a line of hair color that protect your hair and make it healthier then when you start out. However, I very STRONGLY recommend that you go to a local hair salon and ask before you become a human guinea pig.

I am a stylist and I have never heard of this practice. However, it will not hurt your hair in any way and if you do not like it a few shampoos with a clarifying treatment will remove the stain of the tea.

brewed ice tea will deposit goldish tone on your hair, but not lighten your hair. you will not be able to lighten it without bleach or color.
here is a great idea - try a color deposit shampoo that will deposit the right amount of color tone (not lighten) to your hair. it is available in most shades.
a good product to try is by Artec, loreal professional.

I don't know about the tea thing but I have dark brown hair myself and I used to love dying it but am afraid to now cuz I kinda like my natural color, anyways, I use that John Freida Brilliant Brunette, you can use it to get lighter shades or darker shades and I really loved it plus it smells great,(like suntan or coconut)!!!

do not do it, ... there is no way to lighten without using a chemical .... you will always get orange.... GO to the hair dressers!!!! you can always go darker, not lighter... if you need to be lighter go to the beach and lay in the sun!!!!
