men cannot understand women, and sometimes women cannot understand men.
hmm... several things could be happening here. and you must consider the facts. Firstly, you called him pretty late and night. Unless he is the party type (which I suggest you avoid) he is tired. Trust me, not everyone like to talk that late, even to those they like...
and for what you friend heard him "bragging" about you in class, yet he does not call. He could be shy around you, and scared to call (yes, some of us guys are shy that way), or he knew your friend was there, and therefore played it safe by playing the bragging card.
But personally, if he liked you, he would be calling and talking and meeting up with you here and there.
A friend of mine...a GOOD and CLOSE FRIEND, went to NYC a few months ago. While there she met this one guy, and hung out with him for several days. She comes back home (to the southern United States), and avoids this one guy she had been dating, saying the NY guy and she "connected." Well, they communicate for a while via my space and email, some phone calls. But after a while, I think he stops calling, or when she calls him, he says he can't talk..."too busy" he says. Recently I saw on her my space that she "recently tried to get with this one guy, only to discover he was an a$$," and "looking for a guy who has no ulterior motives and has the guts to tell me when it is over."
you must know, that I am assuming all of this. because the guy from NYC is no longer one of her top 8, if at all one of her friends.
but I think that is what happened. he dragged her along, with no intention of dating her, because he enjoyed the power over her.
sometimes guys like to play you along, only because they like the way that they can manipulate those that find them cute.
sometimes talking for a long time together and finding a "connection" is not what you need for a relationship. I feel bad for her, and for the guy she left behind. because I don't think anyone ever loved anyone as much as he did for her...or still does. He was hurt very much...but he still loves her I think...I don't know how she feels anymore.
remember...true love is a two way street.

Sounds like your guy friend is jealous. Or wait is this the same person or is one person now trying to talk to you since you've been talking to someone else? Anyway either way I hope things work out for you. It sounds like though if your friend is seeing that someone else likes you, that now he thinks he likes you or he does and he wants to make it more difficult for you to talk to the other guy by revealing that. The only thing I can say is go for the guy that pays more attention to you (obviously he's showing more signs of being interested), but if your gut tells you to go for the guy friend for whatever reasons and you can actually see that he LIKES you, then go for it. Either way, as I've said before, good luck to you :)

My advice is to keep your options open. I have had similar experiences and I ended up fretting and hounding these guys until they were sick of me and weren't interested at all. I'm not saying to pretend to ignore him, just focus on you and stay busy and interested with the rest of your life. Don't overthink things either--go ahead and phone him.

It's easy to talk to someone you know nothing about. I'd be more impressed if you talked for 4 hours to someone you've known for years.
