Increasing your cardio will help your abs to become more defined - most people have a little bit of belly fat that covers them. You don't even notice it's there - it barely looks like any other fat, but it does cover the ab muscles.

Otherwise, work your "core" rigorously and alternate between toning exercises (low weight, high reps) and stretching exercises. If you lift for mass (high weight, low reps) you will develop a mass muscle rather than well-defined muscle, which will look the opposite of what you'd like. Your core includes:

Upper abs
Lower abs
obliques
lower back
pelvic muscles

Your upper abs and lower abs can be targeted by situps, cruncies, assisted crunches, leg lifts and trunk lifts. If you're not used to doing a lot of these, a number of inexpensive aids exist to make sure you're focusing on those muscles without straining the neck and shoulders (which you'll really need).

Your obliques can be trimmed down by holding a freeweight at your side in one hand, putting your other hand behind your back, standing with your legs shoulder width apart and rocking to the side slowly. The important thing is to PULL WITH THE OPPOSITE OBLIQUE from the weight, and not at all with your arm. Your arm is only there to keep your weight from hitting your body. Make sure to stretch these as they tighten up quickly.

Your lower back can be taken care of by doing a sort of reverse sit-up, you lay face-down with your legs above your body and lift in reverse, pulling your trunk up towards your legs.

Most importantly WORK ON YOUR SHOULDERS AND HANDS. Shoulder strains and wrist fractures are some of the most common injuries in cheerleading.

Working out for the past week is good, but it will take more than just that to strengthen that area.

Working your stomach muscles is good, you should do that anyways, for safer cheerleading (you'll be less likely to have a back injury).

But if you have a soft waistline, you could have power abs and not see it under the layer of fat. Even girls that are thin still have a little extra weight, especially around the lower abs/belly button. It's natural, so it's hard to lose.

Try keeping a food diary. When you start, don't worry about counting fat or calories, just notice how much and what you are eating. But make sure you know which foods are best and worst.

Just seeing it written down can be a surprise - you don't always notice how much you are really eating, and how much junk food you may be eating until you try on that cheerleader skirt next year. Watching what you eat helps you stay focused and eat healthier.

You must simply keep on with lifting weights or doing the jogging. Don't attempt to mix staying power coaching with weightlifting. You will finally succeed in your objectives, however when you fairly wish to lose the fats, you have got to both a) starve your self or b) teach your frame so its burn fats for vigour. Option a) does extra damage than well, so do not pick that one. Do a few study on High Intensity Interval Training. Apparently, it burns fats greater than lengthy, staying power undertaking. However, it's tough *** paintings and if you do not provide the hassle, you will not get the outcome. It is well to have a few fats on you, a minimum of like four-eight%, the reduce being for a person, and better being for a lady. Your frame comes to a decision wherein it wishes to the fats to leave. If you've gotten a enormous butt, however a small waist, you'll mostly lose fats to your butt no longer your waist. I do not fully grasp why individuals believe crunches will aid you lose fats. They simply paintings your stomach muscle groups. DIET IS THE KEY TO A SIX PACK! No junk meals!

I would do a 100 crunches a day, then 25 crossovers on each side. Also some exercises like laying on the ground with your legs strait, back on the ground, and raising them up to your hip and lowering them back to the ground.
