In the Bible, God makes provision for those who kill with out intention. During the Old Testament days, God declared Cities of Refuge, where someone who killed accidently could run to for protection and not be killed. Those, however who planned to purposely kill, or killed by rage, did not fall under this provision. Their blood could be required of them. Self defense, I believe, falls under the first situation. You are trying to protect your life, and did not intend to the person when he or she started attacking you.

Numbers 35:22-28
"22But if he thrust him suddenly without enmity, or have cast upon him any thing without laying of wait,

23Or with any stone, wherewith a man may die, seeing him not, and cast it upon him, that he die, and was not his enemy, neither sought his harm:

24Then the congregation shall judge between the slayer and the revenger of blood according to these judgments:

25And the congregation shall deliver the slayer out of the hand of the revenger of blood, and the congregation shall restore him to the city of his refuge, whither he was fled: and he shall abide in it unto the death of the high priest, which was anointed with the holy oil.

26But if the slayer shall at any time come without the border of the city of his refuge, whither he was fled;

27And the revenger of blood find him without the borders of the city of his refuge, and the revenger of blood kill the slayer; he shall not be guilty of blood:

28Because he should have remained in the city of his refuge until the death of the high priest: but after the death of the high priest the slayer shall return into the land of his possession."

If you kill in self-defense, or something to that nature, then it will not be held against you. Many great heroes in the Bible killed at one point or another, and they were still worthy in the eyes of the Lord. There is a fine line that separates the two.

Well, maybe it is, maybe it isn't, but I don't think any higher beings would be against you for killing someone. If the higher beings are "perfect" and in God's case forgiving (I don't read up on other religeons much), there would be no reason he couldn't give you a free jail pass card.

The church's rules are just about made up by human beings anyways, so there might be a few glitches. The people who made up the rules did some bad stuff too, and we consider then saints.

This is just my opinon.. I could care less how much you bash it in =)

As far as sin goes, you're in the clear -- so long as there wasn't another means available to you (besides killing your attacker) in order to defend yourself.

For instance, if you have subdued your attacker to the point where he no longer posed a lethal threat, but you then killed him anyway, then that's not justifiable.

But if (for instance) you use sufficient (but not excessive) force in subduing him and he ends up dying anyway, you're not guilty of sin if you did not intend to cause his death.

If someone breaks into your house with a machete with the intent to do you and your family harm, and you have a gun and are standing at point-blank range, it's incumbent on you to try to shoot him someplace on his body where his chances of dying are minimal.

In that situation, there's no need to blow his head off if you can possibly help it -- even if it's legal by civil law, there's also a higher law to answer to.

It is not a sin to kill in self defense of your life, or the lives of others in immanent danger of being killed.

Morals are determined exclusively and solely by environment, not religion. There are no "absolutes" regardless how many times bible thumpers tell that lie..

It's called "self-defense," and it is not a sin.

if you are a christian and aknowledge the one and only LORD God as your savior and, have been baptized in his name, and ask forgivness, the LORD will forgive you. Moses even murdered a man, the LORD gave forgiveness to him. The LORD forgives and Forgets.
