The reason why the US cannot provide health care access to everyone is because, that wouldn't be a business that would generate money and revenue. Health care is very expensive and the government knows that for the most part almost all the employers offer some kind of health insurance by law. In the other hand if health care access is free. A lot of those rich influential people would not pay for services they could cover with money of their own packet. I believe health care should be offer to those of middle class and under. Those people work the hardest and are the ones that suffer the most economically. Health care access shouldn't be a question. Everybody deserves it, everybody needs the education so we could have less diseases and illnesses.

Countries that have nation health care typically pay around 60% income tax to pay for these services. Americans don't like anything that raises taxes. Also national healthcare does not benifit the wealthy or middle class, the ones that are doing most of the paying for the service. The poor or unemployed benifit because they get better quality care then they could normally afford, but in order to provide the same level of service to all people in the coutry the general quality level will go down. So this means that they middle class or wealthy who have better health care now will see a decline in the quality of service because of the increased demand in doctor time and resources.
When anyone can go in to see the doctor for free they will go to the doctor with any little thing. So you have waiting rooms full of people with stubbed toes, colds, and headaches all of which people normally don't go to the doctor for because of the cost to see them. This would mean that people with real, serious injuries and illnesses will have to wait longer to see the doctor because the doctor will have more patients to deal with.
While national healthcare sounds nice on paper it doesn't work in practice any better than the current US Welfare system. Too many people are willing to abuse the system and keep it from working the way it should.

The problem with national health care, is that we as a democracy do not have enough doctors that would participate in that system. They and the insurance companies are too worried about the bottom line. In which the government can not pay them the same. The government would have to regulate the private industry but that would take us away from the democracy system that we have. Roy

Well Tiger,, its like this........
The government has enough problems funding the Medicare program for the elderly.
Then, You add the Medicade progaram on top of that ,,, that includes the poor and under achiever types sucking off Uncle Sam..
Then, you figure up that the Government, has over a Trillion dollar debit,, and it's not all just on war material.. and that they have spent up most of the money in Social Security. That I will never get after all these years of working...
That why we cant have any National Health Care.......
Sorry, your SOL, buddy......

Nationalized healthcare is an evil evil thing. I have relatives in Germany who fly to the US to get medical treatments because their national healthcare system is so terrible.

Because we've seen the problems that Canada and England and other countries have with it. People who live along the Canadian border know that many many Canadians come to the US for health care, which they pay for, because there's such a long waiting list for doctors and dentists in Canada.

because we cater too much to corporations. the major healthcare companies keep the lobbyist and politicians pockets so full that they'll never be able to pass something as smart as this. :P the government likes to use it's own stupidity to make it sound like a bad idea too. they say "do you want healthcare to be run like the DMV?". uh huh, well maybe that shouldnt' be so inefficient either!

The MD'S and drug companies are too powerful to allow this to happen. They lobby in DC and it, therefore, can never get done.
