As with any fear, the best way to overcome it is to face it first hand. I know, I know, not the answer you wanted to here right? Well, I used to be somewhat scared to fly. I now have taken flight lessons for some time now. I have almost 300 hours and am going to pursue it as a career. Take comfort in knowing that any commercial aircraft you may fly on, the pilots have gone through EXTENSIVE training and they did not get there by chance. From day one you learn what to do in emergencies. Also, did you know flying is the safest form of transportation? You are WAY more likely to die in your car than in a plane accident. Like I said before, this is probably not what you wanted to here, but these answers are probably the best. Then only way to really overcome your fear of flying is to actually go flying. You can do some things to help with the anxiety before you go fly. Do you think its accidental that there are bars so readily available near where you board aircraft in the terminals? Have a glass of wine (or two) to help calm yourself. Anxiety medicine will also help. Good luck and I hope you can conquer this fear.

If you have a flight booked, ring the airline and see if they can make any special arrangements for you on the day, such as a chat with the pilots or a visit to the flight deck before you take off.
You are safer in a plane than in a car, I really believe that.
I used to be a flight attendant and I've come across alot of nervous flyers from young girls to grown men. Tell the crew you are worried, any good crew member will do their best to look after you.

My mom was always terrified of flying, but since she moved half way across the country about 7 years ago, she has gotten over it. The first couple times she flew she would go to the doctor and get a low grade anti-depressant. Most docs will give you a script for 2 pills (round trip). After she did that a couple times she didn't need it anymore.

I hate flying, and I have to get on a plane on Friday and again on Sunday. Actually, I'm OK once I'm level in the air. I think my fear must be more about speed, as it's the take off that scares me most. I also hate fast fairground rides, so maybe I'm not scared of flying, just speed. Hey, I've just cured myself. Try to pinpoint what it is about flying you fear most - speed, enclosed spaces, rubbish food, crashing, dying, dirty toilets... There's plenty of phobias associated with flying. If you can find yours then maybe you can address it as a separate issue. Wish me luck...

I do and it's not pretty lol. I still get anxiety attacks but it's mostly mind over matter.
Normally, I focus my attention on the in flight entertainment (if there's a good movie)
Taking deep breaths, keeping myself hydrated while walking down the aisles help too.

I fly all of the time and I hate it. I take sudafed, but not the non-drowsy take the regular. It puts me to sleep and when you get up you feel good not like the feeling that sleeping pills give you. Hope this helps because I know how you feel.

I do not have this phobia but I do, however, suggest you see a psychiatrist who might be able to help you overcome this, or even cure it once and for all.
Good Luck!
