There is no such thing as a stupid question. Just stupid people asking questions.

Look there are two schools of thought relative to the value of knowledge. There are those who think it is most valuable when hoarded and those who think that it is most valuable when shared. It is my bet that the person who said there are no stupid questions was of the latter frame of mind.
Keep in mind the difference between being smart and being knowledgeable. "Smartness" is a combination of experience, common sense, and raw ability. Knowledge is an accumulation of facts. Point being, the two are not mutually inclusive or exclusive.
Obviously, Bill Gates is smart, but I would not trust his knowledge about skin cancer when deciding whether or not I should have this mole on my side removed. Furthermore, every one of us has met human encyclopedias who can't tie their shoes.
At the end of the day, if you have a question and are worried about being ridiculed because of its nature, you are the only one who can decide if the knowledge is worth the price you have to pay to get it. (My experience tells me however that there is always a price and most of the time it is worth every penny!)

I think it was Dr. Benjamin Spock. But if there is no such thing as a stupid question, we wouldn't be having any fun, would we. My favourite so far is, "My recipe calls for a cup of milk, can I substitute an onion?"

Someone out to prove that there are, in fact, such things as stupid statements.

the stupidest question is the one that is not asked!!!! Unfortunately one person might think a question is stupid from one person & not another. They wouldn't be asking if the knew the answer some people are just not as smart as others keep that in mind

I work at a business that is open 24hrs a day ...On our phone when a customer calls in it says Thank you for calling your 24hr (name of business)..Then when we pick it up to answer their first question is what time do you close? Of course you always have a response on your mind but ...you just can't be impolite...

Not sure, but it was definitely NOT someone who taught high school! I know teachers are supposed to say this, but it is so untrue. I hear the most ridiculous questions every day!
