I learned in school that it is very bad and that it makes people overdose on heroin.

Cannabis isn't bad for people who can use it responsibly, ie not drive..
Heroin makes people OD, not cannabis. The "gateway" theory is BS.

Marijuana cannot by any stretch of the imagination, cause a person to overdose on heroin!!

the reason hippies don't think marijuana is bad for them is because their too stoned to see the realities of taking any drugs.
Soft drugs lead to hard drugs; the body Can become tolerant of the drug and the person takes more to compensate, sometimes eventually leading to harder drugs (heroin, cocaine etc).
The long term side effects of marijuana or cannabis can be horrendous, leading to paranoid schizophrenia in some cases. Only idiots take drugs, it's much more sensible to say No.

More people have died from eating mayonnaise than from smoking pot (think about that one for a sec).
Besides, hippies aren't the only ones who feel marijuana is relatively harmless. In fact, it can be very beneficial medically, and in many states it is prescribed by doctors for chronic illnesses & pain relief.

How can doing marijuana make you over dose on heroin when you're doing marijuana? That's like me drinking a soft drink but getting drunk on beer.

It's called self medication and allot of people do. It's just a bad pick! Marijuana is just one drug used in self medication. Hippies like myself keep clean and just like people!

You can only OD on heroine if you are doing heroin. There is nothing wrong with smoking pot if you are old enough and know when and where to do it.

Hippies don't think Marijuana is bad for them because their parents were hippies too and used to get stone while their moms were expecting.....therefore hippies that now in days think marijuana is good for them have a low IQ and think that way thanks to their stoned parents.

Why does anybody think a particular drug isn't bad for them? Denial and lack of education sums it up. I've heard of people who had to have a SPECT scan of their brain done to convince them. Even then, addiction can be a gripping beast to deal with.

It's not 'hippies' who realize that cannabis isn't harmful, it's scientists and doctors. Of course, some of them *may* be hippies as well.
Cannabis is far safer than any kind of alcohol, and when used in moderation actually provides beneficial health effects.
