Nope, sorry it's just a myth. My daughter and brother-in-law are both left handed and avoid math at all costs. My cousin is also left handed and is okay in math, but certainly not better at it that most of the population.

I don't think so. I've heard that left handed people tend to be more on the artistic side rather than logical like math. I'm left handed when it comes to writing and I'm better with art than I am with math. But I do use my right hand for a lot of other things so math isn't too much of a struggle for me.

No. Studies have been conducted, but most studies are only correlational. Correlational studies can not imply caustion; only a relation. Left-handedness and math is not a great correlational study because research has shown that it is not replicapble.

Left-handed individuals have been shown to have better spatial abilities. Many psychology studies have been conducted on handedness and spatial abilities. The most well-known spatial ability being Mental Rotation (MR). MR is the imaginary or mental rotation of either two or three- dimensional objects. Psychologist's have inferred that cerebral hemesphere locus plays an important role. Because left-handed individual are inferred to have an advantage in MR, left-handed individuals are usual excluded from studies of mental rotation.

Why do I know this? I have and am currently conducting research involving mental rotation and spatial abilities.

i dont know if being better at math is true. i am a left hander, i am good at math. i do know that left handers think in ways that right handers find to be way outside of the box. it has been shown that if a right handed artist were to paint with his left hand his mind works differently, thus the art is different from what he would normally do. its the same for a writer.

No, they are not better in math. Most left handed people
are better at creative tasks. Left handed people are right
brain dominant. Here's what an expert says:
"You have two brains: a left and a right. Modern brain scientists now know that your left brain is your verbal and rational brain; it thinks serially and reduces its thoughts to numbers, letters and words… Your right brain is your nonverbal and intuitive brain; it thinks in patterns, or pictures, composed of ‘whole things,’ and does not comprehend reductions, either numbers, letters, or words."

Yes, left handed people are GENERALLY better at math, and the reason is they use the right handed hemisphere more so. If you were right handed, you would use the left hemisphere of the brain for motor control. The right hemisphere is more analytical, whereas the left hemisphere is more artful.

I don't believe so. I know that my brother is left-handed and I am right-handed. I am way better at math than he is.

My husband is right handed and is awesome in math, algebra, geometry, calculus, you name it he can do it. I dont think you can determine who is good at what by which hand they use.
