Yes, potatoes are full of vitamins and minerals. Pintos, lental and other beans are full of protien. Rice can be prepared hundreds of ways. Fruits and Veggies at local farmers market (haggle the prices). If time, energy and season willing you can grow some of what you need ie tomatoes and herbs which are expensive.

I would say yes, that's possible. If the person had access to a grocery store (I'm not sure of what grocery stores you can find in those locations, I'm from Arizona), then they could buy fruit and vegetables for the week for under three dollars. The other nine could be used to but a loaf of bread (cheap loaf of bread can be as low as a dollar), some meat from the deli (3-4 dollars), maybe some cheese (3-4 dollars), so they could have sandwiches all week. If they had a few dollars left, they could pick up some nutri-grain bars for breakfast. I think some fruit, vegetables, bread, meat, cheese and nutrigrain bars would be enough to get me through the week. Do they have access to free water? If so, I think this plan could work.

If you live in Boston, visit Haymarket on the weekends (near Fanueil Hall) you can get an insane amount of fruits & vegetables for $12. Just take the time to walk through and find the best quality. There is also fish but this may take up a large portion of your budget. Anyways eating fresh fruits and vegetables is way healthier than paying a ton of money for processed foods in a grocery store.

Probably not.... One could try egg for proteins, Pastas For Carbs, and what ever vegetables you can find that is cheap. Carrots, Potato. Broccoli, and hamburger.

IF you could buy things for this price you might be able to swing it, but the health issue would be hard to determine. You could eat but it may not meet all your health needs.

2 dozen eggs for 1.50 each ($3.00) three eggs a day for protein.

3 boxes of pasta (Spaghetti, Macaroni) 1.00 a box ($3.00) for Carbs

2 lbs of hamburger 2.00 a pound ($4.00) 1/4 pound a day for Iron

And as much broccolli you can buy with whats left over (2.00) for zinc.

This does not mean that this is completely healthy and I would strongly sugguest that you go to a local church or food pantry for help. This would feed you, but may not provide you with enough nutrition or calories to live on. If 12 dollars a week is by choice then just spend more. If this is all you have, then find help with in the community or with a church.

I do not live in or near DC or MA, but I live near a high cost of living tourist community. But with wise grocery shopping I have had to nutritionally feed a family of 3 and if you only have $12 it is possible. I did it.

A person can live off of water and peanut butter alone, so I guess so, as for being healthy, it's probably not, but If I only had $12 a week to live off of, I'd buy a jar of peanut butter a package of crackers and the rest on Rami noodles....

To have a stable heathy diet you need to eat as close as you can to the recommended daily diet and if I gave you 12 dollars for the week to eat of you could probalbly survive, but a healthy diet you can for get that, unless you already have a florishing garden of veggies and fruit trees, then it may be possible.

No. If foodstamps are not providing the money you need for nutrition then contact a local church or food pantry.
