A half brother and sister is a real brother and sister. If you consider them to be a sibling, then they are. If does not matter if they only have half of the same DNA as you, or even if they are adopted. Consider this: How can you only recognize half of a person? Do you choose the top half? The left side? Think about it.

I'd like to answer this from a different perspective. The use of "real" isn't the best way to ask the question. I have a friend who I consider to be a real brother to me. We look alike and act alike. However, the imaginary people I think about and write about are not "real" thus could never be my real brother or sister. Once a person is committed to expanding their family by adoption instead of breeding themselves, you get a little more sensitive to phrases like that. If the person is your half brother or half sister, feel free to call them that. But better yet, just call them your brother or sister. No reason to try and make them feel inferior and different.

My persoanl opinion is YES! If not I wouldn't have any brothers or a sister. I am the only child of my mother & fathers but after they divorced & remarried they had more children with their new families so I now have 3 brothers and 1 sister. I wouldn't trade them for anything and I feel they are just as much my brothers and sister as if we had the same 2 parents. That way I also have an extended family. Yeah! And Sweetie they are real!

I have a step-sister , a half-sister and a half-brother. With my brother and sister we had the same mom but different dads. To me we are all blood relatives. When the chips go down I have been there for them. However I can't say the same as them in regards for me. But I will always consider them my brother and sister no matter what happen. Dawn

I have a half sister and I consider her my real sister. It all depends on how close the family is and who the half sibling lives with. If they live with their other parent and you don't ever get to see them, they probably wouldn't feel like a "real" brother or sister.

I guess it would depend on who is considering. My mom and dad have been married for almost 40 years with 4 children between them. My father was married before and had 2 children with his first wife. Then after he was married to his first wife and before he married his second (my Mom) he had a child out of wedlock with a good friend of his. We were all raised together and even though we have 3 moms for 7 kids I have no steps, no halfs, just brothers and sisters. I couldn't imagine calling them anything else. We are lucky that the entire family situation works for all of us and have for so many years.

Yes! To be a half brother or sister, one of your parents has to be the same person.

Yes, half brother/sister are real brother/sisters, you both have one parent in common, although sometimes halfs dont necessarily live together, they are related by blood. But you dont necessarily have to be related by blood to be a brother or sister, love can do that.

According to the Torah, an adopted child must be thought of as a blood-related child. I think a half-sibling is considered in a similar manner, since 1/2 the dna trail comes from the same parent.
