No, it's typically an act of desperation that leads to the person living "in between" cultures (completely losing your identity because you are essentially no longer a citizen of anywhere). This state of existence can lead to some bizarre behavior (i.e.--simultaneously demanding to be enfranchised in your new location while celebrating your old citizenship). But that's a result of the fear that you no longer belong anywhere.
You may or may not like our government's policy on illegal immigration, but try to have a little compassion for the people who only wanted to live the life that you and I take for granted. Don't mistake me, I'm not defending the illegal actions of those who have violated our laws, but I think you have to separate people from policy. Until our government develops a real and enforceable border policy, maybe they're the ones we should hold accountable.

Hard to imagine, but a lot of these people do not have a clear understanding of a sovereign nation. I don't think most of them are being smugly defiant, they just don't understand that only legal residents of a country have certain rights.
The only thought in most of these peoples' minds is to leave a situation of desperate poverty. They aren't considering the legality; they're often trying to keep their family from starving.
Of course, the ones organizing these protests by illegal immigrants know how galling their demands are. Shame on THEM.

First of all, its illegal to do so. This can lead to serious consequences. and yes, i think it direspectful and maybe somewhat arrogant to do so. It can be seen as taking undue advantage of a countries resources. It also creates a bad image in the minds of the people. at the same time, it also leads to problems even for the people who come in through the right channels. Therefore, it is not worth it.

It's only arrogant if the person does it SOLELY to piss off the government or the people. I'm assuming your speaking to the current illegal immigrant situation, and IMHO most of those people just want money, plain and simple. I think they do it because it's the best way they know how to make a better life for themselves, not because they want to send some kind of message to Americans.

Not arrogance, it's Illegal!
Most illegal immigrants want to improve their quality of life. I give them props for that, but I don't agree with Border Hopping. Apply for a visa, like a good citizen should/would!

Learn to live with that.. is your actual reality and you cannot change anything. You can say whatever, protest with whatever and also insult everybody but that cannot stop this matter since the government is spending more money to play war games on Iraq other than protect his own land there is no option.
