Try the humane society/SPCA. The humane society will charge you an adoption fee($60-$100), but often times this will include spaying and neutering. Be careful to do research on the type of dog you are adopting to make sure they're fairly easy to train and good with kids! You definitely don't want a dog with a mean temperment for a sick child! The newspaper may also offer free pups to a good home. Good luck!

Often, you can find adds in your local newspaper for free puppies. You can also go online and look under classifieds for your local paper. The humane society is always a good option. I have adopted two dogs and one cat from there and they are the best animals I have ever had. You are also saving their lives so you save a few dollars and feel really good about it! Good luck.

If you are limited on money and your attention is focused on a sick child, a dog is not the way to go. They need walks and lots of play. A cat is less maintenence but still expensive. You will spend at least $100 a year on vet bills, and a few hundred on food. Please do not get a pet.

There's an ad section in the classifieds of our local newspaper for pets and pet supplies. There are often "free puppies" advertised there. Check your local newspaper, they probably have the same kind of thing.

Usually there are several in the local newspaper. Also often people will post notices on the bulletin boards at your local pet shops. Grocery stores & laundry mats sometimes have bulletin boards that allow people to post notices & I know I have seen free pet ads on the boards at WalMart.

sometimes in the paper, but often the animal control of your city (or a bigger city near by) has to give animals away. Unlike a shelter, these places usually have to put the pets down if they run out of room, so they are more likely to give them away. I got a beautiful black lab mix who has been the pride and joy of my life (up until my baby) for only 20 dollars. Keep in mind though, it cost alot more for food, kennels, toys and vet bills.... Call around.

Are you sure that you want to do this? A puppy is a big responsibility, and it will be yours...to feed, cleanup, and most importantly...to train so he won't pee all over the house. Maybe your daughter would be happy with a new stuffed toy?
