I don't know exactly how much a stone is in weight loss guidelines, but I'll try to help with what I've experienced. Healthy weightloss begins by asking your doctor. After that, get moving, instead of sitting at home or at your desk, wake up in the morning and walk/run with your pooch, or take an afternoon walk(during lunchtime and eat at your desk). Find little ways to begin changing your habits: crunches during commercials, less dressing on salads, no soda or cutting down on your intake, stairs instead of the elevator, parking far away while grocery shopping, etc. Making fitness part of your daily routine will increase your energy tenfold, and make you feel instantly better about yourself...you're doing something good for your body and your future health as well. You want to make a change for the better, not just for this summer. Sticking with a plan is easier if you have a partner in crime, this will also motivate you to lose more than your friend, too. Just make sur to do it in a healthy way, no diet pills, diet quick fixes, cause that's all they are quick fixes...not meant to guide you through real life, and if your healthy that will be for a long time. Also, make sure you give yourself one day off a week, a freebie, to eat or do whatever you want, you'll see how different foods and activities affect your new life...for the better! It's now up to you, you can do this!

The first recommendation would be to check with your personal physician and make certain you are able to start an exercise program. Then consider several options.
1. Review your dietary needs and plan your intake.
2. Consider a low impact, high result activity which you can build on such as cycling. You will need a properly fitted bicycle, comfortable clothing, and time. First plan on taking some check out rides and find a path to ride which gives you an opportunity to relax, avoid high traffic (vehicular) areas and plan on two hours or so to be gone for each ride. Distance is not as critical as a combination of gears which allow you to continually peddle. If you are in a hilly area, don't just peddle going up hill, peddle going down as well. This helps burn off the lactic acid build up in the muscles and keeps you from getting sore. As you get comfortable with the exercise and realize you can go farther than you thought, go a little farther before you turn back. After you ride for time and figure your turn arounds, then measure the distance. This can be done with a bike Computer which is relatively cheap and available at all quality bike shops or stores.
Remember to drink lots of water and enjoy the scenery.
You will lose weight fairly quickly if you set a consistant schedule and stick to it. Combine the biking with other exercise and don't forget to stretch some before you start and when you stop.
Consider swimming as another great all around alternative exercise.
If 1 Stone is equal to about 14 pounds, you can lose this much weight in 30 days. When I returned from Iraq I was unable to exercise due to an injury. I renewed an exercise program during the recovery after surgery and comfortably lost 35 pounds in less than 2 months. I worked to make the drop in weight no more than 5 to seven pounds a week. My intent was to keep the weight off and I dropped from 185 to 150 pounds by riding and running. I had previously been an avid bicyle rider. Being in my late 40's, I approached the exercise change cautiously and with the blessing of my doctor. My return to the saddle was intentionally careful and deliberate. When I started riding again, I kept my distance down to 5 miles each ride for a week and began adding a few miles each time after that. Relatively soon, I was averaging 30 plus miles each ride, and in order to not overdo it, I rode every other day and walked or ran the in between days. Weigh yourself prior to each exercise period, and weigh yourself afterwards. You will likely be in the range of 2 pounds per exercise period once you are riding for distance, and understand that some of that will come back before your next exercise period.
A slow and steady loss will help keep the weight off long term and you will feel more successful than if you drop suddenly, your body overcompensates and you gain it all back quickly.
Using YAHOO search engine, key words "bicycle paths" you can find safe biking paths in your area including maps and stores or bike clubs. Most will offer opportunities to join in on rides and will also be happy to provide advice. You might also find an exercise partner who can help to motivate you. You will enjoy riding an acutal bike much more than work out on an exercise bike in a gym.
See your personal physician before you start any exercise program.
Good luck!

13lbs in a month? a little unrealistic i think. You could well lose half that if you really try but you can't expect your body to adjust in the 2 weeks after you have started to make sudden changes.
Any doctor/health guru will tell you that.
Don't get me wrong its nice to have a goal but u have to think about the health implications.. Take it slowly and combine a good healthy eating plan with walking swimming and gentle exercise

I think that's something you can do, just make sure you get plenty of exercise, try walking everywhere if you can rather than using a car/public transport, and reduce junk food, snacks, fizzy drinks. If your food portions are large try reducing them rather than crash dieting, make sure you still get a healthy balanced diet.
