I Corinthians 12-14 discusses this very subject. In 1 Cor 13:8-10 specifically says that the spiritual gifts necessary in the 1st century to confirm the word would pass away once the whole of revelation had been given. The Bible as we have it today represents the "complete" mentioned in vs 8, so no, there are no bona fide prophets today.
Another passage that comes into play is Galatians 1:6-9. If a so-called "prophet" is saying anything contrary to the Bible, he is to be accursed (even if it's an angel or the apostle Paul himself). If what the "prophet" is saying is exactly what's in the Bible, why is it needed?

1 Corinithians 12 (Spiritual Gifts) you need to reed the entire chapter to get the context. But V. 4 it say that "There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit (talking about the Holy Spirit).... V. 7 Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good..... V. 10 to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, another distinguishing b/w spirits ....... This is the New Testiment, and the "last days" The church has already been established at this point and the Holy Spirit given. These things were for us then and are for us today. So YES there are modern day prophets, however as for the requirements of them I do not know exactly. Other than they must be led by the Spirit of God. For there are also many false prophets and therefore the spirit must be tested in all cases. 1 John 4

According to Ephesians 4, god gave five gifts to the church, apsotles, prophets, evangelist, pastors and teachers. At no time has he ever taken back any of those gifts.
Any church today as "someone in charge", who acts as the shephard (what the word pastor means) of the group. They have the care of the people.
Any church today also has people who teach, whether in Sunday Schools, Bible studies, etc.
Any church today should have someone who takes the message of Christ to people who are outside the church. Whether in a formal way, or simply by living a good life in front of them. This is the evanglist.
Apostles are ones who go out and start new works, whether staring churches, ministries, missionaries, etc.
Finally prophet are those who take a stand for the message of Christ in the world. They are the ones who point out sin and corruption in society and government. They are often the "fanatics" that are trying to "ram Christianity down everybodies throat." They should be, that's there job. On occasion, God permits them to get a glance ahead at where things are going or what is going to happen, like the Old Testament prophets did. And they are able to predict things. But "foretelling the future" is not the main mission of a prophet. Even if you read the Bible, the majority of what they said was aimed at the problems of their day and how to solve them. (Most of those problems, of course, are so common and universal that their message is also relevent for today.)
So yes, their are prophets, but they rarely having anything to do with "foretelling the future."

As noted in some previous answers, it first depends on what you think a Prophet is. Does the title infer a soothsayer of sorts, a representative of God, or just a believer? Most religions believe there is a prophet today, otherwise how else are we to know how to get to “heaven” (if you believe). Most religions are based off some kind of ancient texts, but can you reference anything regard any modern technology. Prophets do exist, but the real question is who to follow and believe. It’s your’s and your’s alone to make, as to what feels the best and makes the most sense. Just keep in mind, they are human and make mistakes; including the Pope who can be considered one. I’ve made my choice, and don’t regret it (it’s not the Pope by the way.

Do they act like ancient day prophets? Are they filled with the Holy Spirit? Are they living rightrously? Are they prophesying because they love the Lord and not for money? Are thet genuine? If the answer to all these questions are Yes then they are prophets of God.
The Holy Spirit is promised unto everyone and we are on earth to do what Jesus would have done if he were here, so we can do all things through Christ.

Kevin J made a good answer. But to take it just a bit further. Beyound "decerning". There is no mention, in The Bible, of the further need for "prophets" after John the Baptist. There is the need for decerning teachers of The Word. Any who claim to be recieving "new" revelations from God are in violation of God's own Word. (Revelation 22:18-19) Reject any who claim to be delivering "new revelations"

There are a lot of modern day false prophets, but I've yet to see a real one. The bible does tell us that in the last days, we will see prophets again, but as far as I've seen, not yet.

A true prophet of God would be so busy doing the Lord's work that he/she does not even think of exalting one's self by declaring one as a "prophet" of God. In fact, anyone with a saving relationship in Christ is a prophet more or less. The testimony of Jesus Christ in them is the Spirit of prophecy- Rev 19:10. It is a gift of God not to boast or gain recognition, fame or honor for oneself, but to give all the glory to the Lord alone.

Prophets are people who give the word of God to the people of their times. There are modern day prophets but they do not say something beyond what the Bible says. They essentially interpret and deliver the word of God to people of their time and culture. The danger is when people claim to be prophets bringing new "revelation" to people that is beyond the Bible's teachings. We must be discerning.
