Because people question what they don't understand, they trash it to make themselves feel big, and with that they think it will prove their believes to be true.
Others are afraid of it, what if it is true! and they are not one of those who believe in it!

They shouldn't judge the Bible with what some Christian do, as we can judge all other people and what their's do. Religion is a personal thing, and the Bible is a living book. Think about it.

Everybody in this world has a different perspective... And it's our right to hold those perspectives as our own.

Questioning things is the only way to understand them. Simply following blindly is neither an act of faith nor sound basis for any belief.

The bible to many holds great significance and for those people, I feel happy that they can gain some measure of happiness from the world (and that proves in itself that not EVERYBODY questions the bible). However, for those of us who either choose not to follow relegion, or more importantly those who share a different faith altogether could well find this question a little perplexing! After all, I'm sure that a devout christian, including the author of the question, would happily question the texts of the Muslim or Hindu (or any other of the many religions) faiths. So how is that questioning any different from what is being suggested as a "bad" thing?

Finally, the things that happen in this world test our resolve and faith, whatever form that faith takes. Can any of us truly say that we NEVER ask ourselves why these things happen? If the bible is word from god and god creates the world, surely questioning the world around us is much the same thing?

Perhaps better questions would be "Why does everybody interpret religious texts differently?" After all, it's those differing views in the world that create much of the tension.

I'm truly happy if you find comfort and joy in the bible and your interpretation of it... You are very lucky and have something that a lot of us don't. I feel the same way about the fact that I have questioned everything and the answers I found have given me a belief that I take great comfort in too (I am agnostic for anybody who is interested!)

Thanks for letting me rant on like this!

Well I wouldn't say everyone does, however, just read it and you will find lots of unanswered questions. When I went to Catholic School and asked questions concerning the holy trinity, I was told that I would have to die and go to heaven to find out the answer to that. As a child I could accept that answer, now as an adult, I am afraid I cannot. However, I do find lots of answers in the bible too when I wonder how life goes on every day. I guess it really comes down to man trying to find out all he can about everything and then questioning the answers to be sure they are correct.

Look everyone now a days questions the bible simply because, the bible as shown by a documentary in the History Channel, has been massively edited by every single ruler of the time, to fit their needs of manipulation of the people. Starting with Emperor Constantine, read up on him he is famous for the mass editing as were many of his successors.

I mean can you imagine if no one questioned it, we would still be paying tons of money to clergy men so they could pray for us. Because in case you did not know the founders of this country were puritants and their golden rule was no one could pray directly to God, that only priest and clergy men could do so, their excuse (the bible said so).

So that among millions of other things is why we questioin it.

The Bible is spirtual. The only way you will be able to understand and live it is to have the Holy Spirit in you. Without it there is nothing but questions and believe it or not, a lot of people are not walking in the spirit. Jesus told the multitude, "you are of your father the devil.' He could tell by their beliefs, their works and their current lifestyles. You can tell a lot about a persons belief just by watching how they live and behave. The Bible say "you will know them by the fruit they bare."

The bible is not 'our' life. It is YOUR life. NOT EVERYONE is a christian. Some people are Buddhist, pagan, agnostic.... Many different things. So, bearing that in mind, it is WRONG to impose the bible on those who do not live that way. It is everyone's right to go in their own direction of faith.
YOUR life would be better if YOU would read something besides the bible. (You see how it feels when people try to sway you in another direction?) Since YOU read the bible and pattern your life by it, YOU should be questioning what you find in it. All christians should instead of blindly following along....

Because they have never taken the time to get familiar with it, its history, teachings and content. Here is a book compiled by over 40 authors across a period of several hundreds years that holds together without contradition. Full of prophecies fullfilled throughout history, but in Bible and in modern times. Full of historical facts that archeology is just now beginning to prove. Full of universal truth about God, man, the world, life, death, and redemption. If you want to know what to believe about the Bible, simply take the time to read it. It will hold up on its own.

Because there is no solid proof that it is historically or scientifically accurate. For all we know, the Bible could just be another story or epic novel like the Illiad and the Odysey that is completely fictional and we just found it and decided to believe in it.

'Carpediem' said it perfectly. You do need to be secure in your faith. Stop questioning others. Why can't you just live and let live? Why do you feel like you need to push your beliefs on other people?

Keep in mind that the Bible was written by MAN. It's not a hand written letter from God or even Jesus himself.

Because MAN, or I should say a group of power men wrote the bible and decided what should and shouldn't not be in it.
There are millions of other piece of the bible that the Catholic churchs owns and won't print or show people.
Doesn't that make you ask questions?
We only have the cliff notes to the bible, not the entire thing.

The Bible is supposed to be questioned. Faith is something you develop not born with. Bright curious people take philosophy and logic classes to help them understand the context it was written in. Also bible study classes (with various religions etc.).

On the be real side. Religion is the most poplular power base anywhere. Real power resides with the heads of a religion. People like to understand what they are giving power to.... like voting.
