I see the point you are making about heresy & blasphemy, some see little difference however.

You're right ... even though you're talking about heresy, blasphemy could lead us to some pretty interesting revelations as well.

Not trying to be picky, but it may make a difference in the response that you get. Blasphemy involves denigration of spiritual belief or the one believed in.

Heresy is the disputation of or a departure from the orthodox view.

I have at times been heretical, but not blasphemous. True academic discourse requires a respectful dialog about ideas.

The Church is a bit more liberal now than it was then. I do not think that heresy is necessary anymore for an idea to be considered revolutionary. The Church never attempted to censor Thomas Jefferson or Albert Einstein.

Yes- it seems when I was a Catholic I was to just watch shadows.

Questioning meant I was going to hell.
