Are you all ten years old, or is our education system failing miserably? Most of you sound as bad as George Dubya Bush.

It's funny as hell to see you guys come back at me about the whole "Dubya" thing. I spelled "Dubya" and not "W" because that is his nickname. And the comparison is because he's ******* stupid. Like a lot of people on here. And anyone who actually isn't raised American, please don't take offense. If you weren't raised here I won't judge you for not spelling correctly or using grammar as we do, since English grammar is completely nonsensical compared to most other languages. And, since when is "Dubya" a big word? It has five letters. Everyone feel free to correct me, since you're all so ******* smart.

I'm assuming you care about the English language and would like a serious answer. I can't imagine you just want to insult people.
Part of the problem is due to over-reliance on spellcheck programs.A study at the University of Pittsburgh indicates spell-check software may level the playing field between people with differing levels of language skills, hampering the work of writers and editors who place too much trust in the software.
One of the difficulties with spelling checkers is that they can’t assist with some of the (many) oddball characteristics of the English language. For instance, if someone wrote “wood” rather than “would” (or vice versa), it would never get caught, as both words are perfectly valid spellings.
Americans in general are poorly educated when it comes to anything that is not of a business, science or technological nature. Unfortunately the emphasis has mainly been on these disciplines for many years. What educators fail to recognize is that spelling, grammar, and arithmetic are essential in order to progress in all other areas. America also gets a failing grade when it comes to social skills development, world politics and the arts.
Finally, as the old IT axiom states, garbage in, garbage out. People who are essentially nonreaders can't produce literate prose because there are no pre-existing templates in their minds to work from. When the biggest issue in one's day is what Brad and Angelina - people one doesn't even know - are doing, it's bound to affect the quality of thought a person can bring to bear on the questions of others.

Here's some advice...don't sweat the small stuff. People get in a hurry and sometimes forget to check their spelling. Yahoo Answers is not a formal essay to be submitted for a grade. Hey, even national newspapers have typos! And, since the question is "dwelling on spelling," it is "George W. Bush." If we spelled our words as they are pronounced, then it would be "Dubya," or perhaps..."Dubblyuh."

This has been going downhill for years. Once spell-check became part of word processing programs, people stopped relying on themselves to spell items correctly. Now a generation has passed where spelling is handled by computers. Combined with the fact that most web-based posting systems lack spell-check features (such as Craig's List), and people are forced to use spelling skills that don't exist.
The thing is, it's incredibly easy to cut and paste information into Word and run a spell check, and then cut and paste data back into a web form. But I think most people are so used to having computers correct their spelling that they don't think of taking the time to do this. After all, under normal circumstances they think they spell just fine.

I think you nailed it with the 'dubya'. People speak without correct words and advertising is notorious for purposeful misspellings so it has become more expected and accepted.
With the advent of the keyboard and spell checker, people spend less time writing which reinforces the correct spellings of words.
A combination of the two leaves users to reply heavily on 'spell check' -- don't we all use it instead of looking the word up?
As long as there is no actual penalty for misspelling, there is no deterrent to doing so. I got many job offers despite the typo on my resume. Perhaps the readers aren't sure of the spelling either.

they know how to spell the word but it's because someone are to lazy for that time for write it correctly. Look i'm not a english woman and i try to do my best when i write english and it's the same when i write in my language (french) and it's very deficult to write correctly in french. And the second reason that i think it's because they forget to write correctly your language just because they don't take time for read some book, so they don't practice enough their language and they forget what they learn.

Correct me if I am wrong but should your question go instead like this:
"Has ANYONE on Yahoo Answers taken an English class? Why can't ANYONE spell?"
Grammar is equally as important as spelling!

I have to agree with you on this one. It is annoying to read so many misspellings. I use the Check Spelling feature and I wish everyone else did, too. Perhaps some are used to the shorthand used in text messaging. Even so, it would be great if people wrote in complete sentences. Thanks for bringing it up.

I am on Yahoo! Answers, and I took an English class. So... yes. I consider myself a fairly adept speller. There is also a "Spell Check" option on Yahoo! Answers which I will encourage everyone to use.

People find it quicker to type fragmented, so they do not spell all the words right. It is not about their english class experience. The matter at hand really is if the people are lazy or not.
