Go see "An Inconvenient Truth". The real wackos are those that deny science and irresponsibly choose to believe idiotic conservative commentators. Tell me, what makes more sense scientifically, Al Gore's movie or the statement "There is nothing we can do to harm the planet, the earth has an unlimited ability to heal itself" (the quote is from an insignificant radio personality in the U.S. whose name is not worthy of mention).

I was watching PBS the other day and they were saying how the greenhouse effect isnt as bad as initially thought or as bad as it could be. The reason was that in the past century, the US and Europe have produced alot of particulate pollution in addition to the greenhouse gasses. Particulates are small particles os soot, etc. that when in the atmosphere act togehter to refect sunlight and heat back to space. Hence it has saved us from the brunt of the greenhouse effect. The tide could be turning though, they said, as todays cars and plants produce almost no particulate matter but still produce some greenhouse gasses. So we dont get the benefit of the particulates as much now as we used to. But countries like China and India still produce much of their energy by less-clean methods that produce the amount of particulates that the US used to, so its a toss up.
Anyway, the only way to solve the greenhouse effect is to produce less of those greenhouse gasses. Solar, wind, and nuclear energy are the biggest energy sources we have that are 0 greenhouse gasses. Even electric or hydrogen cars produce the greenhouse gasses--not at the tailpipe but at the plant where they produce the electricity or portable hydrogen. There are far to many other atmospheric problems to deal with on Mars, the moon, underground, or underwater that make the Earth still the best place out there. In the future, those places and the modifications needed could become econmically feasible, but for as far forward as we can see now, they are not.

Don't worry about media hype. The Earth has and always will undergo climatic changes. People have always had to adapt. In this case, if the temperature does rise and then the sea level will rise a little. Of course cities on the shore may be drowned. Islands may be submerged. But it has happened before. People moved. The middle of America was once covered by the sea. The Middle East was once lush forest. North Africa was prairie grassland. Change is part of human life, and can be seen in scores of years. Change is part of the Earth's life as well. It just takes place over hundreds or thousands or millions of years.
Take it easy and enjoy your life.

Why would we want to inhabit the Moon or Mars with our poor track record of looking after out own planet. Any other planet or moon inhabited by humans will result in the exact same thing that we are doing to planet Earth. Perhaps we should focus more on looking after our own planet before it is to late, and "too late" is approaching very quickly now.

Well, if you are a Christian then you would know that it will never get to that point. We will not be on the earth this long. God will destroy it after the resurrection & armageddon & his 1,000 year rein on earth. Sounds crazy to you probably, but that is the whole idea of the faith concept. That doesn't mean we should live carefree. We are the keepers of it for the time being & we should respect & protect the gift we have been given.

Planting of trees is one alternative and by far the best solution . Factories need to be monitored...lots of factories emits hazardous gases. Smoke belching cars and other form of transportation also contributes to pollution thus adding the global warming... so everybody should maintained their cars and government should make sure this is followed. Maintaining the ecosystem and being aware of the importance of forest, so lets stop cutting our trees and instead campaign for a mass reforestation.
