Sometimes a cat will throw up because it is eating too much food. It's usually best to feed your cat according to your cat food manufacturers instructions on the bag...usually once a day is good enough. Cat might seem like they are hungry all of the time but they are just taking advantage of our tendency to feed them more often then they should be fed.

Cats will also appear to "throw up" after they have extensively cleaned themselves. This tends to look a little more hairy and is called a "hairball". This is pretty normal and there isn't much a person can do about hairballs other than wash them with a shampoo that keeps the cat from shedding as much. You can also use a hair brush made for your cat to keep the loose hair down.

Other than these two reasons throwing up a lot might not be normal and you might want to check with your veternarian to see if it is something you might want to have your veternarian take a look at.

You need to find out why the cat is throwing up. Our cats actually threw up more on the hairball control food - it apparently had a bad affect on their kidneys. NOT all cats will have this problem and ours was specifically related to their age. However, I learned the hard way through that experience that it's dangerous to experiment with a cat's health and best to see the vet in these situations. Again, I'm not critisizing the use of the hairball control foods, I'm just suggesting that you see a vet to find out why he's vomiting first - I sure wish I had.

Take your cat to the vet. That said...

Do you know why she's throwing up? Food poisoning, illness, actual poison? Vomitting is the way the body gets rid of something that is bad. You need to keep your cat from eating anything while her stomach settles down, but make sure she gets plenty of water.

Constant vomitting can cause dehydration and can be dangerous. If she's listless, non-responsive, etc Take Her To The Vet.

Or... are we talking hairball type vomitting? If she's hacking up hairballs, call your vet for a recommendation on hairball remedies and be sure to brush your cat often to remove the dead hair before she swallows it.

And once again-- When your pet is sick, take it to the vet.

No! That is really bad advice.

Please call the vet and get a professional opinion (the vomiting could be caused by many different things).

I see you've already gotten advice from an owner of a dead cat.

Sweetie, take the poor animal to the vet. It could be anything.

We switched to hairball control dry food, and added a small amount of mineral oil to his wet food, also we limit the amount of milk we feed him.

Never ever give human medication to cats. Maybe your changing her diet too fast or your feeding her cow's milk. Cow's milk makes cats sick.
